Brett gave that man a cold glare, and the guy immediately shut his mouth.

The phone screen was shattered but still usable. Brett, suppressing his emotions, went to pick up the phone from the ground, took out the SIM card, and threw the phone into a trash can.

Kaley was quickly helped out after having her blood drawn. She glanced at Brett and knew he was in a bad mood, so wisely, she didn't strike up a conversation.

Having drawn 700 milliliters of blood, Kaley's face was somewhat pale, but she didn't faint. It was her first time drawing so much blood, and she wondered how Izabella had managed to persevere all those years.

Poor Izabella, her suffering made Kaley even happier. But it was her fault to occupy something that didn't belong to her all those years. Everything comes at a price, and it's all self-inflicted.

During those four years, she bribed Izabella's primary doctor. The coagulation disorders and severe anemia were all fabricated, and as long as she complained, Brett would force Izabella to come and give her a blood transfusion.

Izabella basically came to draw blood every two or three months. Once, she drew 400 milliliters, and another time, 600 milliliters. Sometimes, her blood hadn't recovered yet, and she was already facing another blood draw.

Brett's gaze never fell on Kaley. He sat on a bench in the corridor, his eyes dull, as if he had lost his soul.

Izabella's surgery took a long time, and it wasn't until Liam arrived that the light on the operating room door finally went out.

"Give me your phone."

Liam was stunned for a moment, quickly took the phone out of his pocket, and handed it to Brett. Brett threw the SIM card to Liam, "Go and buy a new phone, then put the card in."

Liam took the SIM card, immediately understanding that Brett had gotten angry and smashed another phone.

Although he had questions, he didn't dare ask them. He took the SIM card and hurried downstairs.

Brett looked at the time, which was already 1 pm.

Izabella was wheeled out, and Brett hurried over to ask about her situation.

The removal of the uterus was not a minor surgery, and coupled with the induced labor, the operation took more than four hours. The surgery was successful, and now it was a matter of when Izabella would wake up.

The doctor gave Brett a detailed rundown of the precautions, and he listened carefully.

Izabella had been hospitalized many times, and the precautions were largely the same. However, a woman who lost her uterus must be well-nourished, or she would suffer later.

Izabella was sent to the observation room, where medical staff would be on duty 24 hours a day.

"Mr. Windham, there's something else." The doctor hesitated, looking somewhat uneasy. Brett became tense inadvertently, thinking that Izabella's body had developed another symptom.

"What is it?" he asked with a tense face.

The doctor said, "Mr. Windham, do you want to see the child?" He also wanted to ask how to handle the stillborn but couldn't bring himself to ask.

Brett's expression stiffened even more, and he clenched his fists, "Take me to see it."

The dead baby was still in the operating room, wrapped in cotton cloth. Its red body had turned deathly pale, its features blurred, with the corners of its mouth slightly upturned.

As a child, Brett had seen specimens soaked in formalin, which people around him said were terrifying, but he felt nothing.

However, today, when he saw the dead child, he was so frightened that his whole body trembled.

Izabella would wake up soon and would definitely be unable to bear seeing the porcelain vase with ashes. Brett gave the vase to Liam to take back to the villa.

He then hailed a cab on the street and returned to the hospital.

In the hospital room, Izabella lay on the bed, her face pale and bloodless. Brett sat beside her, guarding her. A small clip was placed on her finger to monitor her blood pressure, connected to a device, and the test results were worrisome.

Izabella woke up in the evening. She opened her heavy eyelids and stared blankly at the ceiling. After a while, a tear slipped from the corner of her eye into her hair, disappearing without a trace.

She slowly raised her heavy hand and placed it gently on her abdomen. The baby was really gone.

Brett saw Izabella wake up and didn't bother her since she didn't make a fuss.

Izabella had always been strong, and he believed she could pull through.

The hospital room was deathly silent. Suddenly, Izabella turned her head towards Brett, looking at him as if she saw him, yet saw through his body for something behind him.

"Where's the baby," Her voice was so light it was like a droplet hitting sand, disappearing without a trace.

"Liam took him back to the villa," Brett replied.

Izabella didn't speak anymore, she seemed calm, but only Brett knew she had changed - all emotionless and like a puppet, going with the flow.

Losing her child and womb, the pain in her stomach felt like getting stirred by a knife.

Izabella said painfully, her voice trembling, "I've lost my only child and my right to be a mother. Brett, why couldn't it have been you who died instead?"
