Izabella obediently sat on the sofa, head bowed, looking at the glass of water in her hand. The warmth was turning her cheeks pink, and there was a slight dampness on her lashes.
"Do you want to take a shower first?"
At Casey's suggestion, Izabella lifted her head to look at him. Her eyes were bright and innocent like a clear spring after a rain. Casey's tensed face was reflected in her eyes too.
"Don't get me wrong, I just thought, your hair is wet. A hot shower might prevent you from catching a cold. Besides, it'll help you sleep better."
Casey hurriedly explained, and Izabella looked at him, thinking he was such a good-natured guy.
"I didn't misunderstand. It seemed like you're overthinking." Izabella chuckled, teasing him. "Mr Star, you still haven't answered my question from last time. Why do you blush when you look at me? Are you not used to being nice to girls?"
Casey answered honestly, "No, I've only been nice to you."
He used to scoff at "love at first sight", thinking it was all about physical attraction. But when he first saw Izabella at the airport, he suddenly understood what it meant. It was as if he had known her forever.
At that moment, he knew that he only wanted Izabella.
Life is funny. Sometimes, a person you least expect can throw your plans into chaos.
As Casey fixed his gaze on Izabella, this time it was her who looked away first.
Casey quickly changed the subject, "You might want to stay off the internet for a couple of days, especially Twitter."
"I don't care."
"Maybe I do. I wouldn't say I like those insults towards you. If these people were in front of me, I might…" He might want to kill them.
There was a demon lurking deep within Casey. It was usually quiet, but whenever it went anything related to Izabella came up. He tried his best to suppress it, afraid of scaring her.
"You go take a hot shower. I'll get dinner ready. What do you feel like eating?"
Izabella was still immersed in the words Casey didn't finish earlier. Now his change of subject left her feeling a little strange.
"You can cook?"
"Of course! A man who can't cook would have a hard time finding a wife these days."
Izabella laughed. Her sense of humour was a bit peculiar. "I'm not picky. Whatever you make will be fine."
"Alright, I'll see what's in the fridge. Let me find you some clothes first." Luckily, they had plenty of spare clothes here. He picked out a clean white shirt and a pair of shorts for Izabella.
"You can wear my clothes for now. I'll have someone go to the mall to buy women's clothes and send them over from the store. Just send me your measurements later." His ears turned red as he said this.
Izabella took the clothes he handed over. They were brand new, with the tags still attached.
She followed Casey, listening to his incessant chatter. His ears were constantly twitching, red like an apple, tempting her to take a bite.
When they reached the bathroom, Casey stopped and pointed to a blue bottle inside, "That's the shower gel. The hot water is on the left. Call me if you need anything."
Casey seemed a bit awkward, like a curious and adventurous middle-schooler.
"Thanks, Mr Star." Izabella went into the bathroom with the clothes, gave Casey a wink, and closed the door.
Casey stood outside the door, dumbfounded for a long time, stuck in the moment when Izabella winked at him.
Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. Casey quickly shook off the inappropriate thoughts in his head.
He went to the kitchen, and opened the fridge, not to check what was inside but to stick his head in to cool off his burning face.
Damn, he suspected Izabella was deliberately teasing him.
Once his face cooled down, Casey finally looked at the food in the fridge. Thankfully, they had a good selection of ingredients, thanks to the housekeeper.
Casey took out his phone and searched for Izabella. As public figures, they all had some basic information, resumes, and hobbies on the internet.
Izabella's resume was brief, her hobbies were blank, and there was no mention of her favourite foods.
Casey harboured some inexplicable hostility towards Brett. Over the years, he barely visited the Windham family, and probably hasn't even seen Brett five times.
Casey was puzzled why he would show up here. Not to mention due to some cousinly affection, their two families didn't have a good relationship, let alone good enough to drop by unannounced.
He watched the surveillance video. Brett raised his hand and pressed the doorbell.
This time it was much more urgent. The ringing of the doorbell was so annoying that Casey's head hurt.
Even though they didn't get along, it didn't mean he'd leave him out in the cold. Casey wanted to know what Brett's purpose was for coming there.
He opened the door and bluntly asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Where's Izabella? She's here with you. I need to see her."
A surge of hostility immediately rose in Casey's heart. He looked at Brett, cautious and filled with murderous intent.
"How do you know she's here with me? Besides, what's it to you if she's at my place? Do you know her?" He still had his hand on the doorknob, ready to shut the door and send the guest away at any moment. For some reason, hearing the name "Izabella" from Brett's mouth made him feel especially annoyed.
Brett was soaked in dampness. He had hurried here just to see Izabella, an unharmed Izabella.
No one knew how nervous he was, especially seeing Casey blocking his way, thinking that Izabella was just in the room behind him, that Izabella and Casey were under the same roof. He felt like he was going mad.
Brett's eyes were red, and it felt like a cat with its claws out was scratching at his heart, the pain spreading to every corner of his body, making his lips tremble.
Brett was always calm in dealing with things, but his calmness crumbled when it came to Izabella.
"I..." Brett began speaking, but before he could get the words out, he heard a sound from inside.
"Caseyr, who are you talking to?"
Brett, hearing the familiar voice, trembled. His palm clenched tightly against his thigh, his body as rigid as if immobilized, staring at the gradually emerging Izabella.
