Yvette had dinner at Kiki’s house and chatted with her for a long time. When it started to get late, she took a car back to Dewberry Manor.

Xavier couldn’t hold back any longer. He blocked her path with his big, tall frame. “Aren’t you going to ask me where I went or what I did today?” he demanded. 

“Weren’t you working? What else could you have done?” 

Xavier had always spent his weekends and holidays working, so Yvette had never felt the need to ask. She was puzzled by his behavior now.
