Chapter 14 

Despite how afraid Yvette was, she could only cautiously 

protect her abdomen. After what felt like an eternity, Xavier finally stopped. 

“Don’t make me angry, Yvette.” Xavier breathed heavily. 

Yvette could barely make out his words. 

She had a vacant look in her eyes as she asked, “Didn’t you say you would never touch me? What do you think you’re doing now?” 

After saying that, she buried her face in the pillow. Xavier failed to notice how pale her face had become. 

She then said, “Does your beloved know about this? If she knew, she would be angry, wouldn’t she?” 

In the past, Yvette had thought Xavier could be heartless but also deeply loyal to the woman he loved. Now, she only found him to be unbearably unpleasant. 

When she said “beloved“, Xavier knew she was referring to Daphne. “Did you think about that when you were with Claude?” 

His words pierced her heart like a knife. 

Xavier wasn’t one to suppress his grievances when faced with a woman, especially not when the woman was Yvette.

The next day at the hospital, Yvette lay in bed while Claude took care of her. Had she not been admitted to the hospital in time, she might have lost her baby. 

The incident further steeled Yvette’s resolve to leave Xavier. 

The notification tone went off on Yvette’s phone. She checked it to see a message from Yara, who had fled overseas. It read, “Yvette! Since you’re still alive, help your brother and H. Go smooth things over with Mr. Lorimer. We’d be very grateful.” 

Yvette deleted the message without replying. She knew that,

Yvette turned off her phone. She looked up at him and forced a smile. “But there are good people, too. Thank you, Claude.” 

Claude saw the forced smile on her face and couldn’t help but feel bitter. 

He couldn’t imagine how much she had suffered and been treated unjustly over the years. Why was she still so cautious when she was around a friend? 

Claude sat in front of her and met her gaze. “There’s no need to always say thank you between friends.” 

Yvette nodded. She hesitated for a while before finally speaking up again. “Claude, can you do me a favor?” 

He was the only one who could help her now. 

Xavier returned to Dewberry Manor after work, as usual. He had assumed that Yvette’s anger would have subsided by now and that she would have returned.

Xavier remembered their first meeting. Yvette’s hair had been tied up in a ponytail. She had been a little shy, but her eyes had been bright and captivating. 

However, she seemed to have lost her smile after she married him. Xavier frowned at the thought. 

A shrill ringtone jolted him back from his reverie. It was a call from Tristan. 

“Xav, something happened to Yvette.”
