"But we're not strangers."

"Exactly, we aren't strangers but exes. What? Are you still thinking of inviting me to attend your wedding?"

"Will you be there?"

"I'm really sorry, I never attend any of my ex-boyfriends' weddings."

After exchanging passive-aggressive comments, they went silent for a moment. It was Samantha who called their futile conversation to an end.

"If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up." She would feel more upset if they continued talking.

"Hold on," Shaun suddenly called out.

Samantha asked in annoyance, "What is it? Do you still want to argue—"

"Samantha, are you really not coming for my grandfather's birthday?" Shaun interrupted her by asking solemnly again.

Samantha was hit with a myriad of conflicted emotions after hearing how earnest he was.

Shaun held his breath, waiting hopefully for her answer. However, it didn't go the way he hoped.

"I already told you that I'll never attend any of my ex-boyfriends' weddings."

Shaun's heart sank when he heard her rejection. "I'm just getting engaged, so it's not a wedding. If you show up—"

"That's almost the same! You can't force me to go! Seeing that we know each other, I'll still send you an engagement gift," Samantha immediately interrupted him before ending the call.

Shaun gazed silently at the screen after the call ended. He wanted to say, "If you show up, we'll elope together."

He thought he could go along with what Alex wanted and marry Shannon. Once the wedding was over, she would return to the military, and he would continue living his life like a bachelor.

However, after spending the afternoon with Shannon, Shaun realized that it was hard to force himself to spend time with her. This arrangement would be a complete disaster.

The manager answered very quickly, "No. Didn't you say you wanted to have a break for a while? Hence, I didn't accept any jobs for you. Your next event is in March."

March was too far away for Samantha, so she decided to contact Hera.

It was Dora who answered the video call. They didn't chat for long before Dora seemed to have read what was on Samantha's mind.

Dora said, "Samantha, my mommy said that Shaun is getting engaged on January 15. Will you be returning to Jadonia to attend?"

"No," Samantha rejected. "But I'll go back to Jadonia to hang out with you guys."

Dora replied, "Then, come and visit us. You should buy a ticket now."

"Sure thing!" Samantha agreed readily.

After ending the video call, she immediately booked the earliest possible flight back to Jadonia. While making the payment, Samantha muttered to herself, "I'm going back to spend time with Hera. I'm not there to attend his engagement party."
