Seeing Titus furious at Eli's backtalk, Dora quickly stepped in. "Mr. Lloyd, it's not Eli's fault. Some thugs bullied him, and I just came over to help. He didn't lead me into any trouble."

But Titus understood something else. "He's even hanging around with thugs? How many times have I told you that you should be focused solely on studying at your age? No part-time jobs, and definitely no hanging out with thugs!

"Do you have any idea how hard your mother works just so you can stay in this school? Are you just trying to go against her?"

The mention of his mother made Eli fall silent. His gaze held defiance, and his fists were clenched.

Dora knew Eli came from a single-parent family. His mother worked multiple jobs to support him, and he helped out after school by working at a food stand. However, the pay was low due to his age.

Not wanting to add to Eli's mother's burden, Dora pressed her hands together and pleaded, "Mr. Lloyd, Eli knows he made a mistake. We'll write a self-reflection essay tonight and turn it in tomorrow. Could we perhaps skip calling our parents?"

However, Titus grew even more concerned seeing Dora side with Eli. The two had even been holding hands earlier. He needed to correct such behavior before it was too late!

"No way! Your parents must come after school tomorrow. If you won't call them, I will! Now, go home, and don't let me see you two here again!"

With that, he picked up the wig from the ground and stormed off. The crowd of students dispersed, leaving only Dora and Eli.

"You saved me once, and I just saved you. Doesn't that mean we're at least friends?" she protested.

Eli looked at her innocent face and found it almost laughable. Friends? He never had friends, nor did he want any. Because anyone he got close to would eventually be warned by their parents to stay away from him. He was nothing but a troublemaker, after all.

"We don't belong in the same world. Don't make me say it again. Stay away from me!" He stormed off.

Dora stood there, staring blankly at his departing figure. Her heart shattered. How could her crush be so heartless?
