The room was an office.

Three monitors sat on the desk, which was facing a big whiteboard hanging on the wall. There was a relationship map drawn on the whiteboard.

There were two photos in the middle. One was a monochrome photo of a woman while the other was a colored photo of a man.

They were Bernard's adoptive parents.

The woman wasn't a beauty at first sight, but she gave off a sophisticated air. Bernard resembled the man a little.

Hera freed her hand from his grasp to peruse the information.

The relationship map covered the connections of his adoptive parents. Most of them were the Killians. The individuals involved were basically the same as the information she had as of now.

However, Bernard had slightly more information than she did. It was about the biggest beneficiary after Greg died and Lucius' imprisonment.

That year, before Albert died of disease, his will named Greg as the next head of the family. However, Greg passed on, and Lucius was sent to prison.

Rhett didn't stand a chance against Chad, and Bernard was too young back then. In the end, Chad ultimately became the head of the Killian family.

"This is how far Nathan and I have gotten for now." Bernard came to Hera's side. "You started your investigation by looking into Ms. Daphne's murder case, but Samantha reached a dead end.

"I thought that we could trace back the whole story by investigating the beneficiaries, so I listed out whatever I knew about Lucius' case."

Bernard was right.

Hera looked into Daphne's murder case to find out the truth behind her father's accusation. Back then, the murderer was alarmed and opted to burn Daphne and incinerate the evidence because she managed to gather strong evidence.

"But I wasn't at the scene that year. All I knew was what my family announced to the public. The higher-ups covered up Lucius' case, and I can't assess the records. But I asked someone for a favor so that you can visit him in prison," Bernard continued.

"No matter how powerful I am, I have to abide by the law." He leaned in toward her and poked her cheek. "But if you cheer me on, I'm sure I'll make it happen."

She lifted her fingers, kissing her index and middle fingers before planting them on his cheek.

The glint in his eyes darkened, and his Adam's apple rolled. When he drew closer to her, she quickly stopped him. "Don't cross the line. You said you wanted to clear your name."

He wasn't livid. His eyes zeroed in on her. "Enjoy while you can. When we get back together again, you'll have to pay me twice the price."

Hera gulped, knowing that he was a man of his word. Despite being scared, she sneered, "Is this how you're going to win my heart back?"

"Be patient. Come, here's an app I developed. It's my first present in an attempt to win your heart back." He walked to the front of the desk and turned on the computer.

"You're dreaming big, young man." Still, she dragged a chair to the desk to check out what he had prepared to win her back.
