Bernard held a glass of champagne in his hand as he looked out the window on the tenth floor. His expression was stoic as he glanced down at what happened below.
After some time, he saw a person in red getting out of a car. From this distance, the person looked like a tiny speck, but she caught Bernard's attention immediately.
Tilting his head back, he gulped down the champagne. Then, he put the glass down and left.
"Bernard, more than half of the guests have arrived. It'll start soon," said Theo after knocking on the door and entering the office.
"Okay."
As Bernard walked through the door, Theo suddenly stopped him.
"Bernard," Theo called out.
"Yes?"
Theo's mouth opened as if to say something, but the words became stuck in his throat. After finding out that Hera was Esther yesterday afternoon, Theo thought long and hard but still couldn't decide if he should tell Bernard about it.
The thing was that if Theo told Bernard about it, Bernard might feel awkward. After all, he blacklisted the woman he liked.
The problem bugged Theo all night, and he didn't get much sleep because of it. In the end, he decided that he would keep his mouth sealed for Bernard's sake. Theo figured he'd just let Bernard find out Esther's identity on his own.
Hera would show up today, after all. Theo only needed to pretend he was unaware of her other identity, and it'd save Bernard from embarrassment later.
With this in mind, Theo said, "If life gives you lemons, don't be upset or panic, alright?"
"Speak Jadonish," Bernard said curtly.
Theo cleared his throat and said, "I just thought that it'd make a good quote."
"Be frank about it if you want to take leave," said Bernard coldly. Even so, it wasn't that easy for Theo to ask for leave.
In her haste, she reached for the silver needle in her handbag and aimed it at the person's neck. But the person seemed to know beforehand that she'd do that and quickly grabbed both of her hands to stop her from attacking.
Hera's back slammed against the back of the door. She caught the light scent of tobacco on him as he leaned against her to prevent her from kicking him. At the same time, he pulled both her hands upward so that they were pressed against the door and hung over her head.
"You're looking for me," he said, his voice husky.
Hera's heart raced. She finally saw who he was now that he was so close to her. He was indeed the person she was looking for.
Judging from his deep-set eyes and his dark, piercing gaze, coupled with his pursed lips, Hera could tell that he was pretty upset at the moment.
His face was the same as before, but the feeling he gave off right now was different than the times when they met before. Her heart throbbed a little as she looked at him. He was none other than the man she once loved.
He looked exactly the same as he did five years ago. It was as though he never changed.
"Why didn't you reply to my messages?" Bernard asked, his voice gruff as he tilted her chin. "You even hung up on me!"
