Tiffany's heart sank as she witnessed Donald scribbling down the daunting figure of two million dollars on the check. She felt a knot in her stomach as she watched him complete the transaction.

After handing over the check, they waited for what felt like an eternity until, finally, the person they came for was brought out.

It was Eric, but he looked nothing like himself. He had been beaten to a pulp.

As the man who escorted Eric out took a quick look at Donald and Tiffany, he asked, "Why didn't his wife come?"

Tiffany gave the man a suspicious glance. "How do you know his wife isn't here?"

With a smirk, the man replied, "Well, there are only two of you, and you're the only woman. I know you're not his wife."

Tiffany found the man's remark peculiar. "Have you met his wife before?"

"Of course…"

"Clyde!" A man draped in a black trench coat stepped out from the shadows.

Tiffany felt a chill down her spine the moment their eyes met. The man not only looked menacing, but his gaze was downright murderous.

It was evident he wasn't one to be trifled with.

Tiffany diverted her gaze, but the man kept scrutinizing her.

Aware of Tiffany's attractiveness and concerned for her safety, Donald subtly positioned himself in front of her. "Can we take him now?"

The man only glanced briefly at Donald before replying, "Yes."

Tiffany smiled warmly in response.

After seeing Donald off, Tiffany left the hospital.

As soon as she boarded the bus, her phone began to ring. Seeing Alex's name on the screen, Tiffany felt a bit dazed.

Even though it had been over half a month since she left the Lewis Group, it felt like just yesterday.

This call from Alex was the first contact since her departure.

Tiffany answered the call and held the phone to her ear. "Mr. Zander."

Alex got straight to the point. "Tiffany, where are you right now?"

"I…" Tiffany glanced at the hospital fading away in the distance and chose not to be entirely honest. "I'm on the bus."

"Did you just visit the illegal gambling ring on First Street?"
