"Great." Edmund nodded with satisfaction and then looked around the classroom. "Anyone else?"

Getting into the National Quiz Competition meant appearing on TV for the final round. Besides Megan, who loved attention, none of the other students wanted to be in the spotlight; they all lowered their heads, staying silent.

It was like a typical classroom scene. As long as the teacher didn't ask a question, everyone would chat away, but the moment a question was asked, the room would fall silent.

"Alright, none of you want to go?" Edmund had seen this scenario many times before. He took out a prepared box and placed it on the desk. "Then we'll draw lots to decide. Starting with the first group, come up one by one and draw a slip. Whoever gets a star will represent the class and shine brightly."

The students reluctantly lined up to draw their slips.

Helen was the last to draw. She opened her slip right next to the podium. Luckily, it was blank. She put the slip back on Edmund's desk and returned to her seat.

"Mr. Murdoch, I got one," a male student with glasses raised his hand and showed the slip with a star.

"Madelyn got one too!" a female student called out. Madelyn's deskmate, a slightly chubby girl, also raised her hand to show the slip.

Helen thought the name sounded familiar. She turned to look and noticed a hint of reluctance on Madelyn's face.

"Alright then, the class committee leader will lead the team," Edmund said decisively. "You all need to work together. After class, I'll go over the competition details with you."

With that, he began the lesson.

The class went by quickly. When the bell rang, Edmund packed up his notes and couldn't help but say a few words. "What we're covering now isn't too advanced."

He added, "If you have high expectations for yourself, you can do some additional exercises on your own. Physics requires a lot of thinking, especially for those with a weaker foundation…"

Helen felt relieved. It seemed like her new roommate was considerate.

"You're here." Madelyn showed up from the bathroom. She walked back to her side of the room and said, "I went ahead and cleaned up a bit for you since you arrived late. You just need to set up your things, and you're all set."

"Thank you," Helen smiled in gratitude.

"No problem," Madelyn replied, forcing a small smile. But she seemed to be in a bad mood. After speaking, she sat in her chair, turned her back to Helen, and didn't say another word.

Helen guessed that Madelyn was probably worried about the National Quiz Competition.

Since Madelyn had helped her with the cleaning, she would have gladly returned the favor if Madelyn asked. But since Madelyn was keeping her feelings to herself, Helen decided not to pry. She simply pretended not to notice and began making her bed.
