The mental hospital was a living hell, and Fiona had long wanted to leave. Her eyes lit up at the prospect, but she grew cautious when she looked up at Helios. "Are you really being this kind?"
"You're right. I was reluctant at first." He sighed. "But now, I'm deeply in debt and no longer worthy of you. Instead of watching you suffer here, it's better to let you go free. If you're well, I can stop worrying and let you be."
She was excited as she stood up from the bed. "Great! I'm leaving now!"
"Sure…" He took out the knife he had prepared and cut through the special restraint suit she was wearing.
Fiona's hands and feet were immediately freed. She got out of bed, stretched her limbs with excitement, and finally smiled joyfully.
With her guard completely down, she said, "Helios, let's forget about the unpleasant things between us. It's not that I truly hate you. It's just that we had many incompatibilities as a couple. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Understood." He nodded faintly, and his eyes flashed with a malevolent gleam in the darkness. "I should have understood that much earlier."
"Yes. Things wouldn't have gotten so ugly if you had." Fiona, immersed in the excitement of her impending freedom, continued, "But you thought I was actually insane.
"Now that we've cleared things up and with you as my witness, Dad won't insist on keeping me here. Once I'm back home, I'll make sure he gives you money to pay off your debts."
"He will," he said cryptically, then urged, "The nurse will be making rounds soon. Let's hurry and leave before we're caught."
"Okay!"
"But you just said you wanted a divorce!" Her expression darkened instantly. She ordered imperiously, "Stop the car, turn around, and take me home!"
He remained unmoved. The dim light in the car illuminated his face, making him look frightening. "You're not going anywhere…"
Fiona finally realized she had been tricked and turned to open the car door to jump out.
But Helios quickly slammed on the brakes, and as the car stopped, he pulled her back into her seat. Taking out a towel soaked in hallucinogens from his pocket, he covered her mouth and nose with it.
In just a few seconds, she stopped struggling.
