Chandler kept a faint, composed smile, letting Wyatt's words roll off him.

Unfazed by the tension, Eva remarked, "He's just getting a bit forgetful with age. Don't worry about it. Let me get you another plate of salad."

Wyatt's frustration flared as he retorted, "Why are you still serving him? He's perfectly capable of getting his own food. Does he really need you to cater to him?"

The air at the table grew thick with tension.

Unbothered, Wyatt relaxed into his chair and straightened his coat. He assumed a stern, authoritative stance, his expression set in a resolute scowl.

It was clear he was intent on making Chandler uncomfortable; he wasn't even trying to hide it.

Wyatt had long favored Colin as his ideal partner for Helen, with Otto as a somewhat tolerable second option. Chandler, however, was completely out of the question.

His resentment stemmed not only from the Newton family's fall from grace but also from the way Chandler's mother had previously treated Helen. To Wyatt, Chandler simply didn't deserve her.

Wyatt was left fuming, unable to understand how Chandler had managed to turn the situation to his advantage and win her over.

Chandler, however, had expected Wyatt's reaction. He set down his utensils calmly, preparing to address the situation. Before he could say anything, Eva sprang to her feet.

"It's such a beautiful day—let's open a bottle of wine! Wyatt, why don't you come with me to the wine cellar and help pick out something special?"

As she spoke, Eva gently tugged at Wyatt, attempting to steer him away.

"I'm not going," he snapped, brushing her hand away and remaining firmly in his seat.

Eva glanced around the table, her lips curving into a sheepish smile. Without missing a beat, she reached over and pinched Wyatt sharply at the waist.

"And what's the issue with that? I'm just setting some boundaries for him on Helen's behalf!" Wyatt shot back, firmly standing his ground.

"Let's be honest, I know you just don't like him," Eva replied, trying to reason with him. "Truthfully, I'm not his biggest fan either, but Helen made her choice. If we disrespect him, we're disrespecting Helen. I care about her as much as you do.

"Besides, their marriage is their business. If things are going well, we should support and foster their happiness. If they face difficulties, we must stand by Helen and help her through.

"Remember, they're still newlyweds, and yet you're being so critical and complicating things for them. If problems arise, it will be Helen who bears the brunt. Have you considered that?"

Wyatt was momentarily stunned by Eva's unexpected insight, her words making him forget the pain in his ear.

Perhaps women instinctively knew how to sustain a marriage better than men did.
