Abigail had to come to terms with the truth.
"Mom," she said. "I'll be back soon. Wait for me."
…
At Jenson International Financial Corporation, Germaine's assistant was in the midst of presenting a work report to her.
Suddenly, Jenson walked past the glass window, his arm around a slender woman. They were chatting and laughing as they made their way into the room next door.
Though she had been fully focused just moments ago, Germaine felt her thoughts begin to wander. Without a flicker of emotion, her gaze silently followed them.
From her vantage point, she could clearly see the woman perched on Jenson's lap, her body pressed against his. The woman leaned in, her lips hovering dangerously close to his.
Germaine instinctively tightened her grip on her pen, her pupils narrowing as she strained to see more clearly.
Did they kiss? Or… didn't they?
"Ms. Lloyd? Ms. Lloyd? Excuse me?"
The assistant called out to Germaine several times before she finally snapped out of her reverie, confusion flickering across her face. "What's the matter?"
"The summary from last week has been reviewed. Is there anything that needs to be revised?" the assistant asked, smiling politely.
"No, it's fine. You can go now," Germaine replied, barely processing her words as she waved the assistant away.
Though taken aback, the assistant felt relieved to be dismissed without any extra tasks. Seizing the moment, she quickly slipped out of the office.
"You're blocking my view. How am I supposed to see?" Jenson groaned, frustration creeping into his voice.
"Then stop looking and just focus on the scene," she shot back, her eyes widening. "Put your right hand on my waist and use your left to press the back of my head down."
"Do we really have to do this?" Jenson protested, every fiber of his being filled with reluctance.
"Are you seriously turning your nose up at me?" she retorted. "I've sacrificed so much for you! Fine, if you want to grow old alone, keep being so aloof. It's not like I'm the one missing out on a chance with Germaine."
At the mention of Germaine's name, Jenson immediately perked up. Without a moment's hesitation, he grabbed Angelica's head and pushed it down forcefully.
"Ouch!" she winced, nearly twisting her neck. "Easy there, you idiot! Can't you just pretend I'm Germaine?"
