"We're friends. If you need help, you can always tell me." Taylor's eyes were barely open, and his voice was drowsy. He sounded as if he was about to fall asleep.
"Who wants to be your friend?" Caroline retorted stubbornly. As soon as she said that, both of them fell silent.
After a long while, she asked again, "Why are you alone? Where is Abigail?"
Taylor pursed his lips, not responding.
Caroline turned to look at him excitedly. "Did you two fight and break up?"
Before Taylor answered her, she continued confidently. "I get it now. You never really liked Abigail. She's the one who has a one-sided feeling over you, right?"
Taylor still remained silent. When Abigail was around, he didn't dare to admit he liked her. Now that she was gone, he still didn't dare to say he liked her. He was really useless.
Caroline, however, assumed that he had admitted it. After staring at him for a moment, she leaned over to place her hand on his thigh and slowly moved it upward.
"Are you in need?" he asked. "Do you want me to help you with it?"
With that, she moved closer to kiss him. But just before her lips could touch his, he turned his head away.
Caroline sat back down in frustration. "Sometimes I really don't know what you're thinking. Why do you care about me if you don't like me?"
Taylor heaved a long sigh and stumbled to his feet. "I'll take you back."
"There's no need." Caroline was very embarrassed now and refused to stay with him any longer. She turned and walked away without looking back.
Taylor staggered back onto the road. As he walked, he took out his phone, opened his chat box with Abigail on Whatsapp. He clicked on her previous voice messages.
The quiet, dimly lit road suddenly seemed to come alive.
"Dear Taylor, I crave the food of the restaurant near the intersection. Bring me the takeout."
"Bastard, I'm starving. Where are you?"
"Hold on." Helen deliberately played dumb. "Although we've been married for a long time, I'm still not married to you in this identity.
"If we move in together like this, are you trying to set a bad example for our daughter and have her follow suit?"
Chandler raised his voice. "If she dares to do so, someone's legs will break."
"Tsk, tsk. You're really a ruthless father. You haven't even spent much time with her, and you're already thinking about beating her?" Helen teased.
"I mean, I'll break the legs of the brat who dares to hit on our daughter. How would I hurt our precious daughter?"
"Then, aren't you worried that your son will learn from you and get his legs broken by others?"
"Boys must be bold and assertive in order to get a wife."
"Chandler, don't you think you're being a hypocrite?"
