Dominic grasped the subtle criticism in Abigail's words. He tilted his head, meeting her gaze with a look of frustration.
"Do you really think I can't stand to part with Aiden, that ungrateful scoundrel?" he snapped. "I'm just worried about your future happiness!
"We've barely made any headway with your marriage prospects, and now this mess comes up. I honestly have no idea when you'll ever settle down and start a family!"
Abigail braced herself for another lecture. With a tired sigh, she slumped onto the sofa. "Fine, I won't get married. I'll just go through IVF, and the baby will still be your biological grandchild—this way, I won't have to deal with anyone trying to work against me."
"That's completely ridiculous!" Dominic shouted, his face turning red with anger. "Once the Hunt family matters are resolved, you're going to behave and follow through with the arranged matchmaking!"
Abigail didn't want to continue the argument. She stood up quickly and headed for the door. "I'm going to find Helen!"
As she left, she sent Helen a message, informing her that Dominic had already spoken with Aiden.
By the time she arrived at the Newton residence, Helen and the others were already deep in conversation about their next move.
Abigail glanced around the room subtly, noticing that Taylor was missing.
"He went to check on Lucy," Helen muttered, sensing Abigail's unspoken concern.
Abigail's expression briefly wavered, but she quickly gave a stiff nod. "I see."
"Right now, Aiden's only real obstacles are Lucy and Mr. Hunt Senior," Chandler interrupted, analyzing the situation.
"Lucy has PTSD and is likely to be diagnosed with a mental disorder, which would disqualify her from inheriting the company. So, Aiden will probably shift his focus entirely to Mr. Hunt Senior," Helen added.
"No one understands me like you do," Chandler declared, shamelessly boasting about their relationship.
Turning to the others, he spoke with conviction, "We'll have Mr. Hunt Senior fake his death, eliminating Aiden's ability to threaten him once and for all."
Since Carlos was still unconscious, faking his death wasn't an option just yet. That left them with only one solution—using drugs.
"It's not that," Hugo replied, his face turning red with embarrassment. "I know exactly how much this stuff costs to make—my family specializes in pharmaceuticals. The problem is… I don't have any money right now."
Not long ago, he could easily blow hundreds of thousands on a single night out at the club. Now, he couldn't even scrape together three million for something that could be potentially life-saving. It was almost comical.
"It's fine. You can just sign a promissory note," Lincoln said, pulling out a piece of paper and a pen from his pocket. "Once you've reclaimed the company, I'll come collect the debt."
"Deal!" Hugo agreed instantly, quickly scribbling a three-million-dollar promissory note and tossing it to Lincoln. "Here, now hand over the drug."
His actions brought to mind the days when writing checks had been second nature to him.
"Here you go," Lincoln said, checking the note before tossing the entire bottle to Hugo. "Consider the extra two doses a little gift from me."
Hugo held the glass bottle up to the light, examining it closely. "There won't be any side effects, will there?"
