Chandler walked to the front door with Helen at the antique house, where Kingsley was already waiting with a metal detector. After the inspection, they found a listening device in her handbag.
"Shh!"
Kingsley made a shushing gesture, carefully removed the device, and placed it in a special signal jammer. Only then did he let out a relieved sigh.
"This Colin is full of tricks. Lucky for us, I grabbed an extra set of detection equipment when I went back for the tracker. Otherwise, all our efforts today would've been for nothing!"
"It seems Colin doesn't fully trust me," Helen said. "Fortunately, I managed to place the tracker on his car. He doesn't smoke, so it'll be a while before he finds it."
Chandler nodded. "Keep going with the plan, and don't worry about him discovering it."
Kingsley was curious. "What exactly is this Colin's background? Why are the bosses of Destiny Corporation personally involved with him?"
"He's a senior member of an anti-social organization," Chandler explained calmly. "They plan to eliminate human scientists, wipe out humanity, and allow aliens to take over Earth."
"So, a terrorist group," Kingsley said thoughtfully, stroking his chin. "Destiny Corporation is practically doing charity by taking them on. You've got quite a variety of businesses under your belt—never thought you'd aim so high."
"You're overthinking it," Chandler replied. "I'm doing all this to protect my family. If they insist on provoking us, as a man, I won't back down."
Kingsley clicked his tongue in admiration. "Ah, the power of love."
"Kingsley." A voice interrupted. "Instead of gossiping, you should be focusing on my match with Mr. James. It's been days, and you haven't made a move."
Lincoln had appeared again.
"Some things can't be rushed." Kingsley avoided his gaze, clearly caught off guard.
Lincoln wasn't impressed. "Ten days. If you can't do it by then, you're not capable enough, and I won't agree to be your apprentice anymore."
"Ten days? Who can do it in such a short time? Lincoln, let's negotiate a bit." Kingsley tried to bargain.
"No buts, Mommy. I need to go to the lab. I'll be back in an hour. Love you."
Before Helen could react, Lincoln kissed her on the cheek and dashed out.
Helen touched the spot where he had kissed her, staring absently at the door. "This child, he's too mature for his age."
Chandler wrapped his arms around her, gently comforting her. "It's a good thing. You should be happy."
"I wish he'd held onto a little more of his childhood innocence. He's so young, he shouldn't have to carry so much burden," Helen said, still feeling heartbroken.
"With great power comes great responsibility. How do you know he's not enjoying it?" Chandler spoke from the heart.
"I hope so." Helen furrowed her brows in concern.
Chandler took her bag out of the jammer. "Let's go back to the room. We still have things to do."
