Abigail ignored Hugo and was about to walk away when she noticed Taylor heading toward her. After a brief hesitation, she turned and got into Hugo's car.
"Knightsbridge Hospital," she said.
"Got it. Please, make yourself comfortable!" Hugo replied as he shifted the car into gear and drove off.
Abigail glanced at the rearview mirror, watching as Taylor's figure faded into the distance. Lost in thought, she rested her hand on the window, her fingers lightly pressed to her temple.
Hugo stole a quick glance at her, trying to strike up a conversation. "That hospital's pretty far out. Why are you going there? Is someone in your family sick? I could recommend a good doctor if you need one."
"Can you just let me be?" Abigail responded, her frustration beginning to show.
She couldn't fathom how a grown man could be so incessantly chatty.
"Alright, alright," Hugo said with a lighthearted tone. But in the blink of an eye, he pressed on. "I get it, you're feeling down after the breakup. But the more you bottle it up, the worse it gets.
"Honestly, the best way to heal a broken heart is to jump into a new relationship. Why not give it a shot with me?"
Abigail shot him a cold glance and fired back, "Half of your research team has left, and your stock prices are tanking. Instead of wasting your time on useless talk, maybe you should focus on saving your company."
"I knew you still cared about me, but you don't have to worry," Hugo said with a mischievous grin, his tone calm and unbothered. "I've made my decision. I'm not cut out for business, and I don't want to burn myself out.
"There are others in the company more suited for the role of CEO. I'm planning to step down and pass on the reins. Lucy and I will split the assets and go our separate ways."
"Do whatever you like, just don't bring any trouble my way," Abigail warned.
Hugo felt both frustrated and amused. "Why are you so against me, Abigail? I'm serious about you. I needed some time before to figure out if I was really suited for business, which is why I didn't reach out. But now that I've made up my mind, I'm committed to showing you how sincere I am."
Abigail was about to head straight upstairs when Hugo stopped her, pulling her toward the front desk. "You can't just wander around aimlessly. How are you supposed to find anyone like that?
"Excuse me, is there a patient named Stanson Holland here today? We're his colleagues, here to visit him."
"Please hold on a moment. I'll check for you."
Hugo spoke with a serious expression, weaving lies effortlessly while casting flirtatious glances at Abigail.
Unmoved, Abigail turned her gaze away. Just as the elevator doors opened, she noticed a group of sharply dressed thugs stepping out.
As soon as they appeared, the other patients instinctively stepped back to make room for them. This gave Abigail a clear view of Stanson, who was encircled by the group.
