When Abigail had left earlier, Taylor had thrown a similar tantrum, and all three of them knew exactly who he was referring to.
Lucy's hand hovered in the air for a moment before she awkwardly pulled it back. "I'll come back to see him another day," she said, rising to leave.
After escorting Lucy to the door, Jocelyn made her way back inside.
"I believe this lady has feelings for Taylor. Maybe we should help them get together," she said.
As a mother, she naturally cared about her son's happiness. Given Taylor's current condition, it was clear he wouldn't be able to find a wife on his own. If someone like Lucy was willing, she didn't want to miss the opportunity.
"Let's put that aside for now," Damian replied, waving his hand. "Right now, our priority should be preparing to visit the Fitzgerald family and offer our apologies."
From a financial perspective, Abigail was marrying someone beneath her; the Xanders should have been deeply grateful for her decision to join their family.
Sadly, Taylor had betrayed her trust, and now it was up to them as his parents to clean up the mess he had made.
…
As night descended, Abigail was on the edge of sleep when she suddenly felt a presence creeping up from behind.
Her instincts surged to life, and her eyes shot open. In one swift motion, she spun around, her fist connecting squarely with the person's left eye.
With the covers flung aside, Abigail sat upright, poised for any attack. Out of the silence, a raspy voice whimpered from the darkness, "Ouch! Ah, that hurts…"
When Abigail flicked on the light, she saw Taylor, clutching his eye and throwing a childish fit. She sighed, clearly frustrated. "What are you doing here? Why aren't you at home?"
Taylor sniffled, fighting back tears. "I missed you. Can I sleep in your room tonight?"
"No, that's not happening. Grown men don't sleep with women. Go back to your own place!" Abigail responded firmly, her voice leaving no room for argument.
The instant she stopped, Taylor's body went limp, beginning to slide off her shoulder. Reacting quickly, Abigail grabbed him by the armpits, pulling him back up.
Once she regained her balance, she brushed a strand of hair from her face. Suddenly, she noticed Kingsley standing in the neighboring yard, watching them intently.
His gaze was piercing, as if he could see right through her.
"Well…" Abigail began, feeling slightly flustered. "He just suddenly ran over here, I was just seeing him off."
Kingsley's expression remained unchanged as he replied coldly, "Go ahead."
She couldn't understand why she felt compelled to explain herself to Kingsley at all.
