Jenson saw Helen's suggestion as a way to motivate him to rank in the top five. Thinking it was a kind gesture, he agreed. "Okay. But Helen, it's not about playing games with you. It's about proving myself," he said with a hint of pride.
Helen hummed in acknowledgment and encouraged him, "I look forward to your performance, and I'll keep my promise."
Jenson didn't take Helen's words seriously, focusing instead on achieving good results in the upcoming monthly exam to gauge his recent academic progress.
As they walked out of the campus, they saw a familiar Maybach.
"Chandler, what brings you here?" Jenson greeted Chandler with surprise.
Chandler himself wasn't sure why. Instead of returning to the office, he ended up here and waited until school was out. "I just happened to pass by and thought you'd be getting out of school, so I came to pick you up."
Jenson never doubted Chandler's words. He hurriedly opened the car door, letting Helen in first.
Once seated, Jenson said, "Chandler, let's not go home yet. We need to go to the library. I haven't finished my homework."
Chandler was surprised. "Since when did you change?"
Jenson chuckled. "Don't make fun of me, Chandler. I'm just catching up."
Chandler hummed in response, offering encouragement, "Keep it up. I look forward to your improvement."
Jenson happily said, "Thanks, Chandler. I'll work hard."
Then, Chandler started the car and drove off.
After arriving at the library, Jenson was the first to get out. Assuming Chandler would leave, he was surprised when Chandler also stepped out of the driver's seat. "I haven't been here in a while. I'll look for a book to read."
Jenson didn't think much of it and went straight to his usual spot in the library to focus on his homework.
Meanwhile, Helen continued her routine upstairs, browsing the shelves before settling on a foreign novel and finding a spot to read.
Chandler uncharacteristically followed Helen upstairs. He casually picked up an economics book and sat down. But his mind wasn't on the book. Instead, he found himself glancing at Helen from time to time.
After several glances, Helen noticed his staring and looked up. They met each other's gazes. Chandler didn't look away.
Before Helen could speak, Chandler commented, "I've read that book before. It's not bad, but the author rushed the ending. Many things were left unresolved."
Helen was halfway through the book. She lost interest after hearing Chandler's words. "I'll find another one then."
"Let me pick one for you," Chandler offered his help as he stood.
Helen found Chandler's behavior odd, but she couldn't pinpoint why. "Do you prefer comedies or tragedies?" he asked her.
Helen left hastily. Her departure seemed more of an escape.
"Helen, why's your face so red?" Jenson asked with concern as Helen descended the stairs.
Startled, Helen touched her face, "Is it? Maybe it's stuffy in here."
Jenson immediately asked the library staff to open the windows for better ventilation.
He then beckoned Helen over, "Come here, Helen. Help me with this problem."
Chandler listened intently as Helen regained her composure and began explaining the problem. Something clicked for him when he listened to her voice.
He then came to a realization and understood something significant at that moment.
Without lingering any longer, Chandler left the library and made a call from his car. "Carles, arrange for the chief jewelry designer to meet me at 10:00 am tomorrow in the office."
"Yes, Mr. Newton," responded Carles.
After the call, Chandler sat in his car and was lost in thought. He might be developing feelings for Helen, but he wasn't sure whether it was a fleeting fancy or genuine affection.
As he thought long and hard about it, Chandler remained without an answer.
