Carlson nodded. "Agreed! But for her sake, let's keep this under wraps for now. Let's wait to see what the higher-ups say before we figure out our next move.

"What about Helen? Are you planning to fill her in on this?"

Gerard pondered before replying, "Let's keep it on the down low for now. It's for her own good. After all, she didn't know the backstory of this problem before solving it."

"Gerard, I'm jealous of you all of a sudden," Carlson commented.

Gerard's tense demeanor eased at the comment. "What's there to envy? Just don't forget about that nice tea you promised me last time."

This brought a pained expression to Carlson's face. "Ah, I won't get to enjoy your good wine anymore.

"But as for the tea, I'll own up to our bet. Even though we're getting up there in age, we can't be sore losers, right? Don't worry. I'll make sure to hand-deliver it to you one of these days."

The two professors exchanged a smile. Their moods gradually calmed down from the rollercoaster of emotions just moments earlier.

They knew that since Helen had solved the math problem, a lot had quietly shifted.
