"Come on, Dad, just this one time. After this, I'll always eat in the school cafeteria."

Danny had always doted on Anne, never refusing her anything. Even though money was tight, he still wanted to provide for his daughter. Luckily, there was still a thousand dollars on his card.

"I've got a thousand dollars left. I'll transfer it to you."

Anne was dismayed to hear it was only a thousand dollars. "Dad, a thousand isn't enough."

Danny's frustration peaked. He could spare a thousand dollars, and it should have been plenty.

"Where on earth are you eating that a thousand dollars isn't enough?"

"Dad, I'm treating some classmates at Kid Restaurant. Please, just send the money quickly. I need three thousand for the meal. Maybe send a bit extra. We're planning to go karaoke afterwards."

Danny's blood pressure skyrocketed.

He was appalled by his daughter's lavish spending. Right now, it was a struggle just to make ends meet.

Furious, he yelled, "Anne, I'm out of money! You figure it out! And don't call me about this again."

With a click, he hung up, leaving Anne in shock. Without her father's help, how could she pay?

Anne checked her purse, finding only a few hundred dollars, which was far from enough.

After a long hesitation, she left the restroom.

Facing her friends, Anne reluctantly suggested, "I don't have enough on me. Let's split the bill."

As Anne tried to respond, they stood up as if they had discussed it beforehand. "Sorry, Anne, we've got class. We didn't bring enough either. You'll have to cover it for now."

They quickly left. Anne tried to follow after them but was stopped by the waiter.

"Miss, your bill, please."

Anne fought back her tears and emptied her purse of her tiny amount of cash.

It wasn't nearly enough. Anne was desperate. She had to leave her purse as collateral.

Anne returned to class and noticed the change in how her classmates and friends looked at her.

This sudden shift was hard for Anne, but she forced herself to go back to her seat and tried to maintain her composure.
