After closing the door, Bruce and Christine took a moment to collect themselves. They discreetly wiped their noses before turning to face Helen.

"Helen, you've been putting in a lot of effort these past few days. Moving forward, let us take care of Grandma. You must be exhausted, so please go home and rest," Bruce asserted, taking on the role of an authoritative elder.

"It's okay, I'll stay here and keep watch," Christine interjected firmly. "Bruce, why don't you go home with Helen and gather what we need?"

As she spoke, Christine cast a desperate glance at Bruce, silently urging him to comply.

Bruce quickly shifted his approach, saying, "Yes, you're right. It's important for me to go back and check on Dad first."

"Let's go, Helen. Please, lead the way," he urged, reaching out to take Helen's hand.

Helen stepped back abruptly, evading his grasp, her eyes still guarded and distant.

"Why are you avoiding me?" Bruce asked, his tone tinged with displeasure. "We're family now, aren't we? Do you really think I would ever hurt you?"

Helen stayed silent, allowing the awkwardness to linger in the room.

Sensing the tension, Chandler quickly intervened. "Mr. Bruce, my car is downstairs. Let me give you two a ride."

"Are you Helen's fiancé?" Bruce asked, giving Chandler a meaningful look. Upon Chandler's confirmation, Bruce nodded approvingly.

"Good. You seem capable and much easier to get along with than Helen. Alright then, I'll head downstairs first. You two should hurry up. Don't keep me waiting too long."

Chandler flashed his trademark gentlemanly smile and retrieved the keys from his pocket, offering them to Bruce. "Here, Mr. Bruce, please take these."

"Alright." Bruce accepted the keys and promptly left.

"Dad, I'm back!"

Startled, Charlie jerked back in his chair. Upon recognizing Bruce, he grabbed his cane and swung it toward him.

"You scoundrel! Why are you back? It would have been better if you had died out there! Get out of here! Leave!"

In a fit of anger, Charlie stood up abruptly and forcefully escorted Bruce out of the living room, relenting only after they were outside.

Leaning heavily on his cane, he gasped for breath. "I don't want to see you! Leave this instant!"

Unfazed, Bruce responded light-heartedly, "It's okay, Dad. I haven't been a good son, so it's fair for you to lash out at me. But at the end of the day, we're still family. Tough love is still love, right? Rest assured, I won't hold it against you. I'm here to take care of you and support you in your old age."

"You scoundrel! Don't think I'm unaware of your intentions. You're not here to care for us; you're just rushing back to see us off when we die!"
