Jim wore a polite smile as he spoke respectfully, "Ms. Spencer, there seems to be a misunderstanding. We're simply following the rules of the black market."
Upon hearing that, Helen decided not to pursue the matter further.
Meanwhile, Chandler grew increasingly uneasy. Eventually, they all agreed to head to Mike's location together.
Despite being designated as the administrative hub of the black market, Mike's place resembled more of a theater stage.
The area was brightly illuminated by overhead lights, with tables and chairs arranged in a haphazard fashion below. Surprisingly, there wasn't a single spectator in sight.
Mike was seated on a wooden chair on the stage, dressed in a red cowboy attire that echoed the spirit of the Old West. He was remarkably handsome; even with his eyes closed, he radiated a timeless allure.
As they stopped in front of the stage, Jim approached respectfully and announced, "Mr. Flores, Ms. Spencer has arrived."
Mike slowly opened his eyes, his brows raising slightly as he spotted Helen in the crowd.
"You've changed once again," he quipped.
"And so have you," Helen responded calmly.
Mike stood up and walked to the edge of the stage. He bent down, extending his hand toward Helen. "Let's talk."
Just as Helen was about to reach out, Chandler suddenly intervened.
"And who might he be?" Mike asked, retracting his hand.
"My fiancé," Helen replied.
Mike narrowed his eyes, giving Chandler a pointed look before turning away. "If you want to talk, come up here," he ordered sternly.
"That's true," Mike replied sharply. "However, his ties are to the black market; that's the only place he can be handled."
"Honestly, I'm curious whether you intend to take action against him or to protect him," Helen said stoically.
"Well then, it appears you don't know me very well," Mike sneered, a mocking smile crossing his lips. "If I were to protect someone, there would be no need to beat around the bush."
With that, he signaled to Jim, silently instructing him to take action.
Jim nodded in response and gestured to his two accomplices nearby. They swiftly closed in, seizing Mutt and delivering a forceful kick to his leg. Mutt collapsed to his knees, letting out a stifled grunt.
In a split second, Jim snatched the knife from his subordinate and brought it down forcefully.
Mutt's legs were instantly severed, blood flowing out and staining the ground around him. He managed only a few muffled cries before losing consciousness.
