Faye's scream echoed through the building.

By 9:00 am, the villa was teeming with police officers.

One of them was busy taking Faye's statement. "Ms. Boston, are you absolutely sure that you're the only person who knows the combination to the safety cabinet?"

"Yes!" Faye snapped, pushing his hand away in frustration. "You've asked me that same question three times already. How many more times do you need to hear it?"

"I've already told you," she continued. "The emerald I purchased for one million dollars was in that safety cabinet. It was there when I checked it last night.

"This morning, the safety cabinet was open and the emerald was missing. Instead of focusing on catching the thief, you keep interrogating me. Is this how you spend taxpayers' money?"

"I'm sorry, Ms. Boston. We're trying to resolve the case as quickly as possible, which is why we need to review the details multiple times. Please cooperate with us," the officer urged.

The officer taking her statement was inexperienced, and his lack of confidence was apparent.

Faye could immediately tell he was a rookie. Ignoring his words, she snapped, "Get someone in charge here! Is there anyone who can call the shots here?"

As she spoke, a man in plain clothes approached from the safety cabinet.

"Hello, Ms. Boston," he said with a stern expression.

"Are you their superior?" Faye demanded, giving him a disdainful look. "I need you to deploy a team immediately to search this house thoroughly and recover my emerald. If you don't, I'll file a complaint accusing you of negligence and hold you responsible for my losses!"

"With all due respect, Ms. Boston, there are no signs of forced entry in this room or the surrounding area. The safety cabinet was opened using the combination," the man replied solemnly.

"What are you insinuating?" Faye yelled angrily. "Are you accusing me of stealing from myself? I'm the heiress of the Boston family, for goodness' sake! Do you seriously think I'd steal from my own home?"

The man kept a neutral expression and said, "That's not what I'm implying, Ms. Boston. I'm just wondering if you might have misplaced the emerald and forgotten where you put it."

Faye crossed her arms and snapped, "Do I look like someone with Alzheimer's?"

The man bent down to look inside the safe. He gave Faye a knowing glance before slowly turning the contents toward her.

"Ms. Boston, take a look. Is this your emerald?"

Faye's hand flew to her mouth in shock.

How could this be? She could have sworn that it was Helen's raw emerald stored in that safe. To her surprise, the gemstone before her now was undoubtedly the one she had bought.

Though Faye couldn't deny that the emerald was hers, she was too apprehensive to admit it. Her hesitation gave the officer all the confirmation he needed.

With a scowl, he stood up and said firmly, "Since we've found your emerald, we're leaving now. Ms. Boston, please verify your valuables more carefully in the future and avoid wasting police resources.

"Stagville isn't like Aguilisco; everything here is progressing smoothly. We don't have time for these childish games."

He then turned to the other officers, "Let's move out!"
