With a resigned sigh, Helen calmly shut the door and went back to retrieve the smoke grenade.

She brought it to the kitchen and turned on the exhaust fan to disperse the smoke. If she let it linger, it would undoubtedly trigger the fire alarm.

Once the smoke had cleared, she took a knife and swiftly dismantled the grenade, reducing it to a collection of parts.

Though the smoke was finally under control, Helen's frustration remained high. She pulled out her phone and texted Kyle, "Why is the black hand such a scaredy-cat?"

The black hand had boasted about being a top operative, just a notch below Helen in rank. But with his level of paranoia, he seemed destined to scare himself to death sooner or later.

Helen had planned to obtain information about Xavier and Betty in Lerthi Town from the black hand, but it seemed she would need to delay that for now.

With the meeting abruptly ended, Helen shifted her focus to reviewing Hart Jewelry's past performance data.

By 8:00 pm, her stomach began to rumble. She decided to pack up her things and head out in search of something to eat.

Having grown up in the countryside, she preferred street food over gourmet, intricately plated meals.

As soon as she left the hotel, Helen made a beeline for the food district. She strolled down the street with takeout containers in hand, munching on a grilled sausage.

She planned to get an extra serving of tacos at the stall ahead. As she approached the taco stand, she noticed a woman in a heated exchange with a vendor selling local treats.

The woman kept apologizing while fumbling with her wallet. "Sorry, ma'am, I really don't understand. Is this enough?"

It seemed she was concerned she might be getting scammed and was eager to pay to resolve the situation.

The vendor, however, stubbornly held on to the money, struggling to push it away. Her face was lined with distress as she spoke in a local dialect.

Seeing the commotion, Helen smiled gently and stepped in to clarify the situation.

"The vendor doesn't want your money. She's offering the food as a free treat," Helen explained.

The woman smiled and gestured to the thick stack of flyers in Helen's hand. "And you're not so bad yourself."

They shared a smile, enjoying their easy connection.

"Still, I should thank you. Without your help, I might have thought the vendor was trying to scam me. Are you from Dardford?" the woman asked.

"No, I'm not. I just happened to understand the language," Helen replied.

"Very impressive! The Dardford dialect is notoriously difficult; I've been trying to master it for years without much luck," the woman remarked.

As if a sudden thought had struck her, she added, "By the way, I didn't catch your name. I'm Sabrina Colbeck. And you are?"

"I'm Helen Spencer, a Lerthian from Stagville," Helen introduced herself.
