Han Xin entered the bedroom, the weight of the world pressing down on his shoulders. He sat on the chaise, his expression lost and distant. In his hand, he held the dagger that belonged to Xiang Yu, its blade glinting faintly in the dim light. His mind wandered back to the first time they met, how Xiang Yu had annoyed him with that infuriating smirk.
He remembered their fights, the way his eyes sparkled with mischief before he did something to annoy him. He recalled the ruthless efficiency with which Xiang Yu had killed that wolf, a testament to his strength and skill. Despite himself, he found a smile tugging at his lips. He caressed the hilt of the dagger, his smile morphing into one of self-deprecation.
Just then, a sound from outside broke his reverie. He glanced towards the window but saw nothing. Standing up, he walked outside, the cool breeze brushing through his hair. The moonlight bathed the backyard in a soft, ethereal glow.
Suddenly, a voice came from the shadows behind him, a voice that was all too familiar. He didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. His body stiffened, and he swallowed hard.
"So, you don’t even want to look at me?" said Xiang Yu his voice laced with hurt and sadness.
He stepped out from the shadows, his presence commanding. Han Xin’s heart ached at the sight of him. Xiang Yu slowly walked in front of Han Xin blocking out the words the Divine Emperor had said to him earlier.
He shouldn’t be here, but he couldn’t stand not being able to see Han Xin, so when he heard he had been detained in the palace, he had waited this long to finally pay him a visit.
He reached out to touch him, but Han Xin stepped back. "What are you doing here?" he asked, his voice strained.
Xiang Yu’s face fell, a pang of pain flashing in his eyes. He understood why Han Xin was acting this way. Han Xin still couldn’t accept his identity as his enemy let alone as a man. "I don’t want to see you. Just go," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Xiang Yu sighed, his tone dejected. "Okay," he said, turning to leave. Han Xin’s body quivered, his chest heaving with unspoken emotions. He couldn’t believe Xiang Yu would just walk away like that.
Sure, he had told him to leave, but he didn’t think he would go without a fight. As expected, he was just a means to an end for Xiang Yu, and he had outlived his usefulness.
Just as he was about to call him out on it, Xiang Yu suddenly turned back and gripped Han Xin’s hand, the one holding the dagger. He pulled Han Xin’s hand to his throat, the blade pressing against his skin.
"Since I am your enemy and a threat to Yige, where do you want the knife? Do you want it here?" Xiang Yu’s voice was steady. "You can slit my throat, and the emperor will be indebted to you. Come on, then. Or maybe you prefer to stab me in the heart. I won’t stop you."
