Chapter 153: Revenge

AN: This author is mentally exhausted. Only one Chapter today. I will make it up this week.

Xiang Yu licked his lips slightly, listening to the ministers’ complaints with an indifferent gaze, as if he were bored and couldn’t wait to get out of there with Han Xin. Han Xin was the reason he was here anyway. Xiang Wei, standing nearby, gripped the hilt of his sword, ready to go to war for his brother at a moment’s notice.

Just when the ruckus was at its peak, a dagger flew in Xiang Yu’s direction. Han Xin sensed the danger and was about to push Xiang Yu out of the way when he shifted with inhuman speed. The dagger struck the backrest of his chair, its hilt trembling from the impact. Xiang Yu pulled out the dagger, his eyes glinting with something sinister.

With a swift, powerful motion, he threw the dagger back. Before anyone could react, it struck a man clad in black hiding in the beams of the grand hall. The man fell to the ground by the emperor’s feet with a loud thud.

Chaos erupted in the grand hall. Someone shouted, "The Zhen people are attacking us!" But Xiang Yu knew this was none of his doing. Han Xin quickly took charge, instructing the guards to protect the emperor. Assassins appeared from all directions, some disguised as maidservants and eunuchs, drawing their daggers and attacking the palace guards.

Xiang Yu’s eyes scanned the room, and he spotted Peng Xiu smirking in the corner. The ministers ran towards the doors, only to find them blocked by more men clad in black. They were trapped.

Xiang Yu told his men not to interfere in the fight. This was none of their business. He watched the chaos unfold with a detached interest as if it were a show put on for his amusement. Peng Xiu shed her sheep’s clothing, revealing the viper she truly was. She grabbed a dagger and drove it into the princess born of the new empress who had been her mother’s rival. She was her father’s favourite daughter. The one he had high hopes for.

The princess gasped, blood seeping from her open mouth. The empress screamed as she saw her daughter being tossed down the small steps, her body rolling lifelessly. The emperor, who had initially thought the attack was orchestrated by Zhen country, now realised it was his own daughter behind the treachery. He was shocked, the realisation hitting him like a physical blow. She was a viper he had been keeping close to him all along just like her mother.

His men were outnumbered, and he couldn’t understand why his soldiers weren’t coming to back them up. What he didn’t know was that Peng Xiu had poisoned the water in the military stations all over the palace. She also had some palace guards in her pocket. As per her instruction, they had attacked their comrades before shutting the doors. Her initial plan was to attack Xiang Yu and his men and then be the hero, but who would have anticipated that Xiang Yu had really come in the name of peace and his treaty was so good that it didn’t make sense to pick a fight? The peace treaty was beneficial but Peng Xiu could give zero fucks. She changed her plan impromptu and decided to seize the throne. That way Han Xin would be forced to marry her.

Han Xin could have his men come to assist, but his regiment was strategically stationed at the wall, ready for the Zhen army, and couldn’t leave their post without risking accusations of siding with the enemy. Han Xin had instructed them to never leave their post, no matter what.

With no backup coming to save the emperor, he couldn’t help but glance at Xiang Yu, as though seeking his help. Xiang Yu sighed, his eyes flicking to Han Xin. He didn’t want Han Xin to get hurt, so he decided to intervene. Before Peng Xiu could reach the empress, Xiang Yu flung a vase at her. Peng Xiu halted, glaring at him like a ferocious beast.

She leapt up and attacked Xiang Yu, but this wasn’t the real world where she could easily subdue him. Xiang Yu blocked her attack with ease. When Lian and Mei moved to assist, Xiang Yu ordered, "Go help Han Xin," and told Xiang Wei to protect Baihe.
