Chief Xi reached into his folder and pulled out a stack of photographs, placing them deliberately in front of him. The photos were of a sleek, red Mustang, its polished surface gleaming under the streetlights.
"Do you recognize this car?" Chief Xi’s voice was steady, but there was an edge to it.
Xiang Yu let out a soft, throaty chuckle. "Isn’t that obvious?"
"Answer the question, please," Chief Xi insisted, his tone firm.
Xiang Yu’s smile faded, replaced by a cold, hard stare. "I am being generous speaking to you right now, so don’t play games with me. Otherwise, I will lose my patience."
Chief Xi licked his lips, feeling a bead of sweat trickle down his temple. Dealing with Xiang Yu was unlike dealing with the small-time street thugs he was used to. It was like facing the final boss in a game, and the pressure was immense. He cleared his throat, trying to regain his composure.
"You have three tickets issued on your car after you drove through red lights two nights ago... Why were you in such a hurry?" he asked, his voice wavering slightly.
Xiang Yu’s lips curled into a mocking smile. "I didn’t know it was your division’s job to investigate traffic fines."
"No, it isn’t," Chief Xi admitted, "but this situation is special." He pulled out another set of photographs, this time of a black car. "Do you recognize this car?"
Xiang Yu glanced at the photos, his expression unreadable. "No, but I have seen cars like that around. It’s not a rare model."
The room fell silent, the tension palpable. Chief Xi knew the chances of getting information out of him were slim, but he had to push forward. The stakes were too high to back down now.
He leaned forward, his eyes narrowing as he studied Xiang Yu. "Have you heard about the attack at the port on the Die clan?" He pulled out photos of the crime scene. There were gruesome scenes of several men shot dead.
Xiang Yu leaned back, a smirk playing on his lips. "Who hasn’t heard about it? It’s all over the news."
Chief Xi’s gaze hardened. "Did you have anything to do with it?"
Xiang Yu chuckled, the sound low and mocking. He glanced at the one-way mirror, as though looking directly at someone behind it. "I wonder who made you think that," he said, his smile sinister and his gaze sharp.
Behind the mirror, Peng Xu felt a shiver run down her spine, though the feeling was fleeting. She knew Xiang Yu couldn’t see her, but it felt as if he was staring right into her soul.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and another agent rushed in, his face pale. "We have trouble. Someone claiming to be Xiang Yu’s lawyer just walked in with a group of men. He’s demanding to see his client."
Peng Xiu turned to Agent Lu and Agent Shen, her eyes blazing with frustration. "You two let him call his lawyer?"
Agent Lu shook his head vigorously. "No, we didn’t. He didn’t even bring his phone."
Peng Xiu quickly messaged Chief Xi. Just as he read the message and was about to instruct them to stall for time, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open. A man dressed sharply in a tailored suit, rimless glasses perched on his nose, and a briefcase in hand, strode in.
"I am Lawyer Guang, and this interview is over," he declared.
