Han Xin entered the dining room, his expression unreadable. Butler Qing followed closely behind, carrying a tray laden with food. He placed the dishes on the table, which had already been set earlier with meticulous care. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the room, mingling with the salty sea breeze wafting in through the open windows.

Han Zhan, who had been locked out by Han Xin, ran around to the front of the villa and entered through the front door. He hurried to the dining room and sat down next to Han Xin just before Peng Xiu could take the seat. "Cousin, you are so heartless, you just left me there," he said, his tone exaggeratedly dramatic.

Han Xin ignored his theatrics, focusing instead on the food in front of him. Peng Xiu entered the room, her eyes narrowing when she saw Han Zhan sitting next to Han Xin. She walked over to Han Zhan, her voice dripping with a sweetness that was more terrifying than her usual rudeness. "Zhan-ge, can you please sit over there?"

Han Zhan felt a shiver run down his spine at the saccharine tone. Unwilling to face off with her, he began to stand up, only for Han Xin to command, "Sit down," in a stern tone that brooked no argument.

Han Zhan shrugged his shoulders and sat back down. "The chief has spoken," he said with a smirk.

"We can discuss it later," Han Xin replied curtly, picking up some vegetables from the centre of the table.

Peng Xiu was clearly dissatisfied but didn’t want to push her luck. She sat down a bit further away, watching Han Xin intently. Each time he moved his chopsticks, she looked at him expectantly, but he never picked any of the dishes she had made. Instead, it was Han Zhan who took some, only to stop when Peng Xiu glared at him. Han Zhan bit his chopsticks, a confused expression on his face, but he seemed to understand and stopped taking from that plate.

Feeling a little impatient, Peng Xiu took the initiative to put some food into Han Xin’s bowl. She reached over and picked up some of the fish. "Xin-ge, here, have some," she said, placing it in his bowl. Han Xin hesitated, eyeing the dish warily. He was thinking that the chef’s standards were dropping drastically. The fish appeared soggy and bland, nothing like the chef’s usual fare. Han Xin was seriously considering sending the chef for retraining if his standards were indeed slipping.

Peng Xiu then added some garlic green beans to his plate. "Xin-ge, try this as well," she insisted. Han Xin’s lip twitched as he looked at the slightly burnt green beans that had lost most of their colour. He was definitely not going to eat those. Reluctantly, he picked up the fish and immediately regretted it. It wasn’t just bland; it had a bitter taste as if someone had not removed the fish guts properly and the bile had burst.

He quickly took a napkin and spat it out. Peng Xiu was startled, and Han Zhan laughed softly, having suspected that the dish was Peng Xiu’s doing. Peng Xiu bit her lower lip, feeling embarrassed.

Butler Qing could clearly see that Han Xin was visibly upset. He had tried to talk Peng Xiu out of cooking for Han Xin, but she had insisted. Even when Butler Qing offered to kill the fish for her, Chef Beici had stood by, arms folded, clearly displeased with what she was doing to his kitchen.
