Chapter 68: The spoilt princess

Han Xin gestured for her to continue, his eyes sharp and attentive. "What does she want?" Han Zhan sat up straight curious to know. Was she going to complain about the tent being small or that there were so many bugs? Which one would it be?

"The princess has settled into her tent, but she... she is asking for a change in clothes for her and her maidservants," Yi Nuo began, choosing her words carefully. Han Xin’s brows arched. This couldn’t be all she wanted. This wasn’t his first time dealing with royalty. From the dirt in the soil to the summer heat and food, they would complain about everything.

"Clothes? That’s all she wants? Are you sure?" asked Han Zhan even more curious than his cousin. Princess Xiu might have been raised outside the palace but where she grew up was just as comfortable with plenty of servants. The deposed empress wasn’t stripped of all her luxuries because of her father’s contributions to Yige so Princess Xiu should have been spoilt rotten.

Han Zhan was right. She was spoilt but the Princess Xiu right now was the Demon King Xiang who had endured suffering for half his life. He had even slept in a crate in an alley once when his mother chased him out for buying the wrong rouge.

"She seemed content with the accommodations and she sent her maidservants to follow me to get some clothes," she reported.

Han Zhan chuckled softly, still twirling the figurine. "It seems I was wrong or maybe she is putting up an act to please you cousin. Since she has been stalking you for years, she must know you like the hardworking type. I wouldn’t be surprised if she walks in with mung bean cakes she conjured from who knows where to gift to you."

Han Xin shot him a warning glance before turning back to Yi Nuo. "Get them clothes from the inventory for new recruits," he said despite having a lot of clothes in his possession that would be more comfortable than the rough fabric that the recruits wore. He wanted to make it so uncomfortable for her that she would ask to be sent to the capital. He would offload her on a few of his men and send her on her merry way. "Where is she now?" he asked curious to know what sort of trouble she was up to. If she was causing trouble, he would bar her from visiting certain places.

"Her Highness is drawing water from the well, sir," she replied, and the expressions in the room changed. It was Han Zhan’s thunderous laughter that broke the silence. He couldn’t believe how far she would go to grab her love interest’s attention. Han Xin’s expression darkened. He regretted asking. Now he won’t hear the end of it. His cousin would tease him to no end.

He dismissed her and Yi Nuo saluted again and left the tent. Han Xin returned his focus to the table, his mind already strategising the next move. Han Zhan leaned back with a mischievous smile. "So, you are going to let your beloved wear rough clothes and sleep in a tiny tent?"

"Shut up, will you? She needs to get it inside her head that I am not interested," he replied the annoyance in his voice apparent.

Han Zhan sighed, his eyes never leaving the figurine. "Don’t be sad when she sets her eyes on someone else. I heard that Jun De whisked her away like a young hero down the mountain. Soon you will get invitations to their wedding."
