"Mr. Nicholls, the team we sent to the coast has reported back. Ms. Serrano has been found, and Mr. Blackwell's people are getting ready to get her."
Nathaniel was stunned by the news.
He glanced at his watch as he asked, "Is she dead or alive?"
"Alive, but they can't be absolutely sure it's really Ms. Serrano. They'll have to see for themselves."
Nathaniel checked the time again.
"How much longer until Mrs. Nicholls's due date?"
There was a brief pause from Troy, who reviewed the hospital records.
"Approximately ten days."
It was Nathaniel's first time dealing with a situation where a pregnant woman was close to delivering, and he did not know much about labor.
He quickly calculated the round-trip journey and said, "That's still plenty of time. We should be able to make it. Book the earliest flight. We'll depart today."
"Understood, Mr. Nicholls."
After ending the call, the driver, looking uneasy, asked Nathaniel, "Mr. Nicholls, we'll be at the hospital parking lot in two minutes. Would you like to check on Mrs. Nicholls first?"
Nathaniel gazed at the hospital building outside the window, remaining silent.
Kristen had survived the fall into the sea after taking the bullet for him.
There were things he needed to clarify with her.
His phone buzzed again.
It was a message from Troy, reading, [Mr. Nicholls, the flight arrangements are done.]
He tightened his grip on the phone, making a decision.
"Ella is with Mrs. Nicholls and will take care of her. Turn around and head to the airport."
"Yes, sir."
In the hospital room, Ella anxiously kept checking the time.
Mavis leaned against the headboard, reading a book.
Ella leaned in and whispered, "Ms. Lawson has already replied. She's sent a legal team to handle things. Given your dad's history of abuse, it should be easy for your mom to get a divorce if she wants it. Ms. Lawson will relocate your mom, and as for you and the baby leaving, she needs a bit more time to plan. Nathaniel will notice if both of you suddenly disappear without a trace. She needs to be careful."
Mavis's mood instantly lightened.
"Thank you so much, and thanks to Sheena too. I'm truly grateful for all your help. If you ever need anything from me in the future, I'll be there for you. I owe you my life."
Ella clicked her tongue in disapproval. "We're friends. Helping each other is normal. You don't owe me anything. Just keep yourself safe and don't make reckless promises."
Despite Ella's disapproval, Mavis was deeply touched.
She felt that having good friends was far more valuable than having a man.
That entire day, Nathaniel did not appear.
Mavis claimed not to care, but she felt a lingering emptiness inside.
…
The next morning, Kai and Kristen were woken up by the commotion outside.
"Mr. Tuttle is back! Mr. Tuttle has returned!"
