Tommy was in a state of panic, convinced he must be seeing things.

Mavis was equally flustered.

The misty mountain forest seemed particularly gloomy with its lack of sunlight.

Before Tommy could process what was happening, a blunt object suddenly struck him hard on the back of the head.

Just as he felt the sudden sharp pain, his vision darkened, and he collapsed to the ground.

Sheena stood behind him, holding a stick she had picked up from the ground.

She had knocked Tommy unconscious.

When Mavis saw Sheena, she rushed over as if she had seen her savior.

"Sheena, what are we going to do? Now that Tommy has seen me, Nathaniel will find out soon enough."

Knowing Nathaniel, he would probably be furious when he learned that the supposed incident on the stormy night was all a lie.

It would make her life a living hell!

Sheena patted Mavis's hand reassuringly. "Don't panic. We need to prepare for both scenarios."

Mavis nodded and said earnestly, "Thank you, Sheena. You're the only person I trust completely."

It was an honor for Sheena to be the person Mavis trusted the most.

Nonetheless, there were still things she needed to clarify.

"Mae, if Nathaniel finds out you're still alive, have you considered what you'll do?"

Mavis hesitated, not saying a word.

Sheena continued, "You've been missing Callum so much. Don't you want to fight for his custody?"

Mavis remained silent.

Of course she wanted to.

However, Callum was still very young, and she was no match for the Nicholls family's influence.

If she were to divorce and fight for custody, she likely would not win the battle.

"Ms. Lawson, I saw Mrs. Nicholls! It was really her! Living and breathing Mrs. Nicholls!"

Sheena's expression froze momentarily before returning to its usual calm.

"Your fever must've messed up your vision. Mae has been dead for a year, and her ashes are buried in the Nicholls family cemetery in Svelton, Froania. How could you have seen her?"

"It's true! It was really Mrs. Nicholls. She looked just as surprised to see me as I was to see her. I remember it clearly!"

Sheena sighed and called out, "Come in."

Tommy looked towards the door and saw another woman walking in with lunch.

The woman was slender and though she wore makeup, the lines of age were visible on her face.

Despite that, she had clearly been beautiful in her youth.

She had golden hair and blue eyes, with an exotic appearance.

Tommy was stunned and began to doubt himself, as this woman's features did resemble Mavis's.

He pointed at the woman and asked, "Who is this?"

Sheena answered, "She is Mae's mother. Last year, I helped her get divorced from Mae's father. Now, she lives here alone. I came to check on her because I heard she was ill."
