They had been shopping and were already returning when they received Hugh's urgent call.

"Callum!" Gabrielle was the fastest, and she quickly rushed ahead.

As soon as she entered the altar room, she saw Callum huddled in a small, pitiful ball in the center.

Her heart ached with sympathy as she rushed over, picking him up and cradling him tightly.

Noticing the swollen bruise on Callum's face, her concern turned into anger.

"Nate, are you out of your mind? How could you be so harsh? No matter what Callum did wrong, you can't just hit him like that. A child is meant to be cherished, not subjected to such abuse!"

Nathaniel had no intention of explaining the situation either.

"Do you know what he did today?"

"I do," Mildred said, stomping her cane. "He got into a fight, so what? Every naughty child gets into fights when they're young. Can't you just talk to Callum about it?"

Nathaniel sighed heavily. "He doesn't listen to reason. Sometimes, it's better to use force."

He glanced at Callum, who was nestled in Gabrielle's arms, then continued, "Callum started the fight. He injured the other kids so badly that they had to be hospitalized with a broken leg, a collapsed nose, and internal bleeding. Do you think that's a minor issue?"

"Was it that serious?" Mildred was taken aback, her eyes widening in shock.

When she returned, all she knew was that Callum had caused trouble at kindergarten, got into a fight, and Nathaniel had taken him to the altar room for a reprimand.

She had no idea of the full extent of the situation.

Nathaniel continued, "Grandma, you know that spoiling a child does more harm than good. The more you indulge him, the more you'll ruin him."

The altar room fell into a brief silence.

Nathaniel said nothing, his brow deeply furrowed.

Mildred, both furious and distressed, struck Nathaniel's chest with her fists a couple of times.

"Did you hear that? Callum would never randomly bully someone."

Mildred's punches were weak, but Nathaniel's shoulder still swayed with each hit.

He lowered his gaze as he listened to her scolding.

Mildred continued, "The other children are only five years old, just like Callum. They wouldn't know about the Nicholls family's issues or use such awful words as 'criminal' or 'bastard child'. Either their parents taught them, or they've picked it up from them. You should investigate that family instead of just punishing your own son!"

Nathaniel's face went pale, and his back stiffened.

Mildred wiped away her tears and said, "I know you had a tough childhood and faced many hardships, but Callum is Callum, and you are you. Please don't use your own experiences to judge Callum. He is not the same as you were."

After speaking, Mildred took Callum from Gabrielle's arms, soothing him softly, "Sweetheart, everything will be fine. I love you, and Auntie Gabrielle loves you too."
