Nathaniel's expression grew serious, clearly not wanting to address the question.
He brushed it off, saying, "It's grown-up stuff. You don't need to worry about it."
Callum pouted in frustration, even more upset.
Nathaniel's tone was so dismissive that it made Callum feel like he was not liked anymore. He let go of Nathaniel's hand and quickly ran into the mansion.
"Callum, watch where you're going!" Nathaniel called out, his voice stern.
As he turned, he saw Mildred leading Tiffany into the house, the two exchanging polite conversation.
Nathaniel's blue eyes darkened, not sparing Tiffany so much as a glance before heading straight to his study.
It was almost mealtime, and while the kitchen was busy, the rest of the house was quiet.
Callum had retreated to his little room, sitting on the carpet with his remote-controlled car. His toys were the only thing that could make him push aside his frustration with Nathaniel, letting him immerse himself in his playtime and imaginary world.
A few minutes later, the door suddenly opened.
Callum heard the click of high heels and turned to see Tiffany standing there.
He frowned, clearly annoyed.
"You're supposed to knock before coming into someone else's room. Didn't your parents teach you that?"
Tiffany smiled gently, not responding to his reprimand.
She shut the door and walked over to him, speaking softly, "Callum, are you having fun playing by yourself? How about I join you?"
"No, please leave," Callum replied.
He did not like her one bit. Because the way she called Nathaniel so familiarly gave him a sense of unease, and he instinctively did not want her around.
However, Tiffany was unfazed by his rejection. She grabbed one of his toys from the carpet and began fiddling with it.
"Would that be so bad? I think we get along well, and I'd take good care of you like you were my own son."
"No way! It's bad!" Callum responded without hesitation, his little face scrunched up in anger.
"I already have a mommy, and I don't need you. You're just a bad woman trying to mess up my family."
Tiffany covered her mouth, letting out a laugh.
"Your mom's been dead for five years. Why are you still holding on to her? And you can't be so selfish. You can't expect to keep your dad all to yourself forever. He needs a suitable and capable partner. Do you understand that?"
Callum's anger flared, and he shot to his feet, his little fists clenched tightly.
"My mommy's not dead! She just went somewhere far away, and she's come back to see me recently. I don't need you! Go away!"
However, Tiffany just scoffed. "I heard you just got out of the hospital today. Sounds like you were there because you're sick in the head. You're just imagining that a woman who's been dead for five years came back to see you and just wants your dad all to yourself. You're just a selfish, sick little brat."
"What did you say? Say that again!"
