Tiffany felt a chill run down her spine, and just like that, she was dropped by the roadside at 7.10 p.m.
Nathaniel's luxury car sped away, leaving her in a cloud of exhaust fumes.
Tiffany coughed as she tried to clear her throat, and she glared at the distant taillights, muttering angrily, "Nathaniel, if I didn't need something from you, do you really think I'd even look twice at a bastard like you?"
…
Meanwhile, Nathaniel quickly arrived home.
Mildred was surprised and asked, "That was quick. It's only been twenty minutes. Is Tiffany okay?"
"It's just a scratch, nothing serious," he replied, already heading toward the altar room.
Mildred called after him, "Remember, talk to Callum calmly. Don't lose your temper!"
However, Nathaniel was already long gone.
In the altar room, Nathaniel found Callum fast asleep on a soft cushion. His mouth was slightly open, and a tiny puddle of drool had soaked into the cushion beneath him.
So much for reflecting on his actions…
Nathaniel removed his suit jacket and crouched beside Callum, carefully wrapping the jacket around the boy's small frame.
Then, he pulled out a wet wipe and gently wiped away the drool from Callum's face.
Once compulsively neat and clean, Nathaniel did not seem to mind the drool that had smeared onto his hand, too focused on making sure Callum was clean.
Since only 20 minutes had passed since he was sent here, Callum was not in a deep sleep, and the cool touch of the wet wipe quickly stirred him.
Even though he knew Nathaniel had returned, he burrowed deeper into the suit jacket instead of opening his eyes, pretending to stay asleep.
His eyelashes fluttered now and then, exposing him.
With a soft twist on the boy's ear, Nathaniel said, "I know you're awake. Don't you want to explain why you hit someone earlier?"
Callum squinted his eyes, sneaking a glance at Nathaniel's hands.
Nathaniel's soothing tone seemed to have a magical effect, and the little boy's crying stopped abruptly.
Callum stared at Nathaniel, full of surprise.
"Really? Daddy, do you really believe me?"
"Yes, I believe you. But if you ever feel like you've been wronged, you should come to me instead of reacting with violence, especially to your elders. I don't want this to happen again, or else you'll find yourself in the study, ready for a lesson you'll never forget."
Callum was scared out of his mind and quickly moved away a little.
"Say it."
Callum frantically shook his head and waved his hands.
"I won't do it again! I'll control my temper and not hit anyone, I promise!"
Satisfied, Nathaniel smiled and ruffled Callum's hair, teasing him lightly, "Come on now, didn't you just say you're a big boy? What's with all the crying? Isn't that embarrassing?"
