The tension between the two men was unsettling as they locked eyes, a silent clash sparking between them.

Nathaniel's eyes narrowed, a surge of anger flashing beneath the surface.

Though Evan held his ground, Nathaniel's powerful presence was overwhelming, and eventually, Evan adjusted his glasses to cover his unease before turning back to the shrimps.

Nathaniel's hands clenched behind his back, veins bulging and knuckles white from the pressure.

After a few moments, he released his grip and stormed out of the apartment.

The door was slammed so forcefully that the whole building seemed to shake, causing Callum to jump in fright.

Mavis rushed to scoop him up, holding him close to comfort him.

Curious about the noise, she checked on the situation, only to find Evan remained.

"Did he leave?" she asked.

Evan smiled. "Seems like it. He just stormed out, and I'm not sure why."

"He slammed the door so hard. It was like he was upset about something. What were you two talking about?"

Evan replied innocently, "We were just chatting, nothing serious. I have no idea why he got so worked up."

Mavis glanced at the closed door but said nothing more.

Evan added, "Don't worry about him. Go ahead and play with Callum. Dinner will be ready soon."

Downstairs, Nathaniel sat in his car and lit a cigarette to ease his frustration.

Troy glanced back from the front seat, surprised.

"Mr. Nicholls, Mr. Callum is still upstairs. Why are you smoking?"

Nathaniel remained silent as he exhaled a slow puff of smoke.

The swirling smoke made his expression even more mysterious, and his long lashes cast shadows over his brooding eyes, concealing his thoughts.

Troy hesitated before speaking again. "Are you… not going back upstairs? You're just going to leave Mr. Callum and Mrs. Nicholls with Evan? Isn't that…"

Just like giving them space and letting another man have a chance with his wife?

Of course, Troy did not say what was on his mind.

However, he noticed that Nathaniel was frowning, clearly annoyed, and he quickly backtracked.

"But Mr. Callum is smart, and Mrs. Nicholls cares about him more than anything. With him there, Evan should know to keep his distance."

They could save their marriage, yet Nathaniel refused to give in, too hung up on his pride and ego.

Nonetheless, these thoughts remained unspoken. After all, he was just Nathaniel's employee and did not want to act out of bounds.

Nathaniel did not seem angry at Troy's previous comment.

Instead, he stared out the window at the blurring scenery.

After a long pause, he asked, "What makes you think I'm jealous?"

To him, it had been nothing more than a contractual marriage.

Callum was a result of that arrangement, nothing more.

Or so he had thought.

Troy replied, "Mr. Nicholls, haven't you noticed? You care about Mrs. Nicholls more than you might realize. When you thought she died during childbirth, it broke you. You only forced yourself to recover to be there for Mr. Callum. Then, you lost it when you found out she was still alive and planning to leave with Mr. Callum. You even shut down the airport just to stop her."

After a brief pause, Troy added, "And now, it's driving you crazy that Mrs. Nicholls had another man by her side for all these years. Your anger, your happiness—all of your emotions revolve around her. She may have become a very important person in your life, but you just haven't realized it yet."

Nathaniel fell into a deep, contemplative silence.

As he mulled over the words in silence, he realized Troy's words made sense.
