Mavis's heart ached as she listened to Callum's words.

She immediately pulled him into her arms, cradling him close.

"How could I ever, ever leave you, Callum? That's impossible," she whispered, trying to reassure him.

It was obvious that Callum was very understanding despite his young age. Most of the time, he pretended not to notice things so they would not worry about him.

Mavis realized just how sensitive her little boy truly was, and guilt and regret surged through her.
