Half an hour later, Nathaniel emerged from Lionel's office, having been kicked out.

Lionel's frustrated voice could be heard from his office as he scolded Nathaniel, "Is your pride that big that you can't even compromise? If you can't swallow your ego, don't come asking for my advice! Get lost!"

A sofa cushion flew into the hallway.

Nathaniel did not even bat an eye, tilting his head slightly to dodge it.

However, Troy was not as lucky and got hit square in the stomach.

His face scrunched in pain as he groaned, "Mr. Nicholls…"

Nathaniel glanced at him and asked, "Have you been slacking off on training? Your reflexes are getting worse if you can't even dodge a pillow."

Troy bit back his complaints.

"Let's go to Ascend Apartment," Nathaniel ordered.

Troy dutifully pushed the wheelchair.

Nathaniel seemed to enjoy not having to walk. He lit up a cigarette and puffed away contentedly.

As they left the National Investigation Bureau, they spotted two familiar figures before they reached their car.

Troy leaned in to whisper, "Mr. Nicholls, it's Mrs. Nicholls and Mr. Dylan."

Nathaniel looked up to see Mavis and Dylan approaching.

Mavis' eyes landed on the cigarette in his hand.

Her calm voice held a hint of sarcasm as she said, "Smoking again? I thought the doctor said you shouldn't smoke or drink while your leg is healing."

Nathaniel had just taken a drag, and her sudden comment caught him off guard.

He started coughing violently.

Troy quickly jumped in to explain, "It's because… you're not taking care of Mr. Nicholls anymore. He's upset, so he smokes. If you'd show more concern for him, he'd definitely listen to you."

The two played the good cop, bad cop act convincingly.

Troy could barely contain his excitement, nudging Nathaniel eagerly.

This was a perfect chance to mend things with Mavis, and she suggested it herself, saving Nathaniel's pride. He had no reason to refuse at all.

Nathaniel held his cigarette, a glimmer in his blue eyes through the smoke.

Noticing Mavis watching him, he looked away and coughed slightly to hide his expression.

He maintained his aloof demeanor and said, "I'll think about it."

Dylan did not let him off easy. "Mae's not here to serve you, so stop acting high and mighty. Suit yourself if you don't want to move to Ascend Apartment, but don't block our way."

Mavis added, "If you find it troublesome, forget I said anything. Dylan, let's go."

Nathaniel and Troy were left speechless.
