Josephine had assumed it was Zayn, and she had even braced herself for another confrontation. But when she turned around, she was met with a completely different face.

It was Yvan. He had shrugged off his trench coat, leaving only a black dress shirt underneath, paired with a red-and-black bowtie. His silver hair was messy and flowing, giving him an almost unreal, comic book-like appearance.

Years ago, men like him had been her weakness. One look, and she'd be lost in a daze for days.

But now, her tastes had changed. Josephine was immune to his type. Hence, after barely sparing him a glance, she looked away. "What are you doing here?"

Yvan tapped his fingers against the staircase railing, the metal clinking as his eight rings knocked against it in an erratic rhythm. "What, is this your property? Am I not allowed to use it?"

Josephine shot him a cold look. "Why are you acting like someone just shot you? You ate my pastries, and this is how you repay me?"

He scoffed. "I used to buy you pastries every day, multiple times a day. Yet, you were never grateful then."

He was bringing up the past again. Josephine pretended not to hear him and turned to continue down the stairs. But Yvan caught up to her effortlessly with his long strides.

The staircase wasn't narrow, but walking side by side with him still felt unbearably awkward. Josephine slowed her pace on purpose, hoping he'd go ahead, but he did the same, as if he was purposely matching her pace.

Josephine sighed, exasperated. "What exactly do you want?"

He arched his brow. "I should be asking you that. You've been married to Zayn for three years, and neither he nor my dad know you're a director?"

But he remained completely unbothered. "And how is that our problem?"

"Our?" she scoffed. "There is no 'us.'"

His smirk deepened, but instead of backing off, he stepped forward, forcing her back until she bumped against the wall. Then, he raised his hand to block her path down the stairs. "You claim there's no 'us'... But if you really didn't care, you wouldn't be this defensive. The way I see it, you're still bitter.

"But tell me, Josephine... Where do you get the audacity to be mad at me? You were the one who betrayed me!"

Josephine sneered, "It's been three years, and yet you're still so full of yourself. I've been married and divorced. I've been through things you wouldn't even begin to understand. Every single one of them affected me more than you did, Yvan. What makes you think I still care about you?" With that, she ducked under his arm and strode down the stairs, leaving him standing there, unmoving.
