Chapter 142
Chapter 142
Wiley’s eyes turned misty. He opened his mouth to speak, but a thousand emotions tangled into silence,
In the end, all he could manage was a hoarse, simple sentence. “Take care of yourself!!
Jessica nodded lightly, said nothing, and walked away
Just as she stepped out of Delight Hall, she ran into Nolan rushing over. “There’s been another riot,” he reported grimly. “The rebels in Kabury County struck again last night–slaughtered over a dozen innocent civilians,”
Jessica frowned. “I thought the rebels were already diven out. They came back just to kill How much did they foot? How many were injured?”
Nolan shook his head. “They didn’t eat anything. They just hacked people down, burned a whole row of houses, and then lett.”
Jessica’s frown deepened. Rebels inwading a county just to kill and burn, without looting? Something’s off. It feels more like a provocation. Could they be seeking revenge?” ||
Nolan added, “It was Waldo who drove them out a year ago–will, Garbisch led the vanguard. But if it’s revenge they want, why attack Kabury County? Why not come straight to Capitalia to assassinate Waldo or Garbisch?”
What exactly were these rebels thinking?
Jessica said, “Garbisch is at the hunting grounds today. Go find him, wam him to stay alert. As for the rest… we’ll deal with it once he’s back.”
With rebel activity stirring, the court would surely dispatch troops to suppress it. But who would they send?
Jessica said thoughtfully, “Also, have someone check what Waldo is doing today.”
Although Waldo House wasn’t far from the Yates estate, Nolan and Monica had arranged for people to watch the surrounding areas. They couldn’t guarantee immediate news, but nothing major would escape their notice for long.
Sure enough, just as Jessica returned to her courtyard, Monica hurried over. “Waldo took Priscilla out to the military camp today,” Monica reported.
Since Nolan had gone to the hunting grounds, Jessica had left this side to Monica.
Jessica glanced sideways at her, “To the camp? Does that mean the King is sending Waldo to crush the Kabury County rebellion?”
Last year, Waldo had indeed led the suppression force. If he went again this year, it wouldn’t be surprising.
Still, to dispatch Waldo himself over a handful of rebels seemed excessive. A lower ranking general would have sufficed.
Monica shook her head. “No, from what I heard, it’s Priscilla, She’s trying to prove her skill at riding and archery.”
Jessica fell silent for a moment, then let out a soft, contemptuous laugh. “So, they’ve decided they don’t need Garbisch anymore. They want Priscillato take his place. Fine. As long as they stay out of the Yates family’s way, it’s no concern of ours.”
She walked into the apothecary, continuing her study of medicinal.compounds.
Monica trailed behind her, still uneasy. “But, has darbisch decided whose hunting team he’ll join yet?”
Jessica said calmly, “Who says he must join sombone else’s team? We could form our own.”
Monica nearly jumped out of her skin. “The Yades family? Where are we going to find enough people for that?”
Jessica smiled slightly “Aters via today, I reali
maybe it’s not impossible.”
Monica still looked dubious. “But even if you count Garbisch and Alivia, that’s only two. Nolan’s good, but he’s nowhere near their level. How are you
