Chapter 153
The next morning, Garbisch organized the troops and immediately led them into the Wahmont Mountains.
Markus, riding beside him, looked confused. “General Garbisch, where’s Miss Yates?”
Miss Yates was their strategist–though Markus personally had little faith in what a young girl could accomplish, everyone had heard of her exploits
Whether the stories were true or not, her presence had always been a source of comfort.
Now, finding her absent just as they we
were about to enter enemy territory, Markus couldn’t help but think the worst.
“Has she Bled at the last moment? Was that why she insisted everyone rest last night–because she herself was too afraid to face the danger?
Garbisch caught the flash of disdain in Markus’s eyes but didn’t bother to explain much.
“Jessica went in ahead of us,” he said curtly. “She’s scouting the enemy.”
“That’s impossible, Markus blurted out before he could stop himsel
The Vrahmont Mountains were crawling with rebel ambushes. Even Waldo’s elite force of fifteen thousand had been trapped inside.
Jessica a delicate, frail y young woman–charging in alone to scout? It was suicide.
Garbisch didn’t explain further. He simply urged his horse forward, his mood dark and anxious.
Markus stared at his retreating figure, his heart unsettled. Could it be… she really went in?”
It wasn’t long before they found Jessica’s first market.
“Half a mile ahead–enemy ambush,” Garbisch said, scanning the strange signs she’d left behind.
He turned to Markus, sharp and decisive. “Take three hundred men, head left. About a hundred paces in, there’s a hidden path behind the underbrush, About three hundred rebels are lying in wait. Circle around and hit them from behind.”
Markus stared, stunned. “General… are you certain?”
How could she know such precise details? How could she even find the hidden path?
The markings Jessica left behind weren’t traditional military codes either–they looked like random, tangled scribbles. Markus couldn’t make sense of
them at all.
“What if it’s a trap?” he asked hesitantly.
“I trust Jessica,” Garbisch said simply
He held the command token–the symbol of ultimate authority. With that, Markus had no choice but to obey
Grimly, he gathered his men and crept toward the flank as ordered.
Meanwhile, Garbisch continued leading the main force forward, ready to cover them if necessary.
Minutes later, the sounds of battle erupted deep within the ravine. Garbisch didn’t pause. He pressed the army onward at full speed.
About a mile ahead, Nolan spotted another marker. “Miss Yates’s sign!” he called out.
Garbisch’s eyes flashed. He raised his hand and ordered, “Cody, take three hundred men, right flank. Another hundred paces in, there’s a hidden trait behind the boulders–roughly three hundred rebels are lying in wait

Chapter 153
“Yes, sir!” Cody answered eagerly.
After seeing Markus’s earlier success, Cody was practically itching to charge.
Jessica’s precision and speed had sparked something in the men: trust, excitement–hope.
No one knew how she had done it. How had that seemingly fragile young woman crossed enemy lines unseen? How had she mapped their positions so thoroughly?
