True to her word, Jessica pushed through the soldiers and took the lead toward the exit

Waldo kept trying desperately to get up, but each time, Hughie firmly held him down.

Waldo kept struggling, forcing Hughie to stay put. “Your Highness, I must go protect Ms. Yates. Stop moving or I can’t leave your side!”

Seeing Jessica’s figure about to vanish into the mist, Hughie’s heart raced with anxiety. I can’t just let her go alone he thought, no longer caring about Waldo as he dashed after her.

But as soon as Hughie stepped outside, he was stunned by what he saw.

Hughie gasped, “Ms. Yates what just happened?”

They had barely taken a dozen steps when, all of a sudden, the mist lifted and the landscape opened up before their eyes.

A dozen or so soldiers followed Jessica out.

Though fear of death gripped them all, and they’d been rattled by the bandits‘ arrows, these proud warriors could not possibly let Jessica venture out alone with just a maid to lace certain death.

Even if it meant dying, they’d stand by her and protect her with their lives.

But to their astonishment, after barely a dozen steps, the thick mist ahead completely dissipated.

They turned back. The stone forest behind them remained shrouded in impenetrable mist

Hughle and his men were utterly dumbfounded, their jaws nearly hitting the floor. “Ms. Yates… how is this

possible?

Jessica said, “This stone forest has a unique terrain. It was later modified into a mase formation. Anyone who enters will get trapped. Go back and tell the men it’s safe here now, so they can come out.”

Jessica pressed forward without hesitation,

“So, have we finally found the real exit?” Hughie asked hesitantly, “Ms. Yates, are there any bandits lurking nearby?”

He knew Jessica might not be able to answer. Guiding everyone to the exit was already miraculous enough.

Hughie called out, “Ms. Yates…”

Jessica gestured toward the distance. “Listen for yourself”

The men strained their ears. Sure enough, faint sounds of battle reached them.

Hughie and the soldiers gasped, “This…”

“Garbisch has the Imperial Army surrounding the bandits,” Jessica said calmly, “But your men haven’t eaten in two full days. They’re in no condition to fight. We’ll wait here for General Yates and the Imperial Army to arrive.”

If the soldiers were still combat–ready, Jessica wouldn’t have needed to move so cautiously.

But right now, with the men weak from starvation, joining the battle would be suicidal.

Hughie wasted no time. He rushed back, rallied his men, and together they carried the injured Waldo out of the stone maze.

Emerging into the vast open land before them, the soldiers wept with overwhelming joy
