Chapter 167
Chapter 167
Hughie hurriedly replied, “Madam, His Highness has ordered Priscilla to remain confined to her quarters for reflection these days. He didn’t give her permission to enter Moonlight Manor.”
Aryana frowned deeply. “Why is Priscilla being confined to quarters? Could those rumors bè true? Did she drive Darwin to his death and cause Prince Waldo’s severe injuries?”
Hoghie hesitated, thinking, “These are things I can’t just talk about carelessly.”
“I’m not entirely clear about the details myself, Madam. Perhaps you could ask His Highness directly. I need to go and check on His Highness’s medication now, if you’ll excuse me.” As soon as he finished speaking, Hughie quickly made his exit.
Hughie breathed a sigh of relief. ‘Thank goodness it’s only Aryana and not Consort Adele,” he thought. “If it had been Consort Adele, there’s no way I could have slipped away so easily.
After Aryana entered the chamber, she leaned in and whispered a few words to Adele.
Though wounded, Waldo’s acute hearing allowed him to catch every word.
“Mother,” Waldo said, “those are just desperate imaginings from the trapped soldiers. The truth isn’t-”
Adele scoffed, “So, are you taking your soldiers for fools, or do you take me, your mother, for a fool?”
“I wouldn’t dare,” Waldo replied quickly.
Adele scoffed coldly at her gravely wounded son. She couldn’t bring herself to scold him, yet she felt so upset.
”
She said, “Waldo, you’re truly blind. Jessica is an extraordinary girl with a brother who follows her every word. Though the Yates family may appear to be in decline, they still hold real strategic value.”
Adele was so furious that she pounded her fist and stamped her foot.
Then, she said, “Especially now that Garbisch’s health is failing, he’s a lost cause. He’ll likely attach himself to whoever his sister marries. If you marry Jessica, you’d gain a powerful ally.”
Once, her son had been invincible in battle, and she loathed to admit that all of it was because of Jessica’s help.
Who would have thought that the first time Jessica wasn’t by her son’s side, he would suffer such a humiliating defeat that Jessica and her brother had
to come to his rescue?
However unwilling she was, Adele had to face the truth.
‘Without Jessica, my son is truly nothing. But he’s my one and only son,‘ Adele thought desperately.
She snapped, “You… You must drive out that wretched girl who only brings you trouble. Never let her set foot in Moonlight Manor again. Once you’ve recovered, I’ll go with you and plead with General Algernon to arrange an advantageous match between our families.”
The truth that a seemingly delicate woman could single–handedly rescue Waldo’s troops from certain doom proved how formidable Jessica was.
Adele thought, ‘Her only shortcoming is her lack of fighting skills. If Jessica has fighting skills, won’t all those so–called “great generals” and ” pale in comparison?‘
gods”
Waldo pleaded, “Mother, Priscilla has lost everything and has nowhere else to turn. She has no family or connections in Capitalia. If I were to cast her out now, wouldn’t that be forcing her to her death?”
Adele snapped, “She brought this on herself.”

Waldo quickly replied, “But I’m the one who brought Priscilla to Capitalia. If I were to abandon her now after bringing her here, how could toit ent myself a real man?”
Waldo couldn’t stand Priscilla these days. Her actions at Vrahmont Mount had left him heartbroken and disappointed.
