Chapter 41
The day General Garbisch asked to break the engagement for Jessica, he truly earned it with his military accomplishments. He was also injured, and in moment of weakness, I agreed,” the King explained.
But afterwards, the King regretted his decision. After all, having Jessica marry into the royal family would have brought nothing but benelis to them.
The real issue lay with the 100,000 Yates family soldiers left outside. If the King were to forcefully reclaim the troops, it would be seen as an act of taking them by force
The Yates family had served the empire with unwavering loyalty, and the 100,000 soldiers were the result of the late Duke and his three sons‘ sacrifices. If the Kingforcibly reclaimed the troops, it would be an act of cruelty and Injustice,
Had General Garbisch’s health not failed, the Yates family could continue to serve the empire, and reclaiming the troops would not be a pressing issue. But the key was that General Garbisch was now interfile.
Consort Adele could see that the King was moved. She lowered her voice and suggested, “Your Majesty, I might have a way to test General Garbisch’s strength. If he truly can’t continue, then the mariage between Jessica and Prince Waldo cannot be broken”
“I’ve already given my word. Unless Jessica changes her mind, I will not retract my decision.”
“Your Majesty, why not hear my suggestion first?”
Early the next morning, Monica knocked on Jessica’s door.
“My lady, you should go check on General Garbisch. He’s been practicing his spear since early this morning and still refuses to rest
Jessica sat up, feeling the effects of last night’s wine. Her head was still a little foggy
“Is it strange for General Garbisch to practice the spear? Doesn’t he often practice for long hours?”
Two hours was nothing. For General Garbisch, that was a usual length of time.
Monica hesitated before replying, “My lady, you really should go check on General Garbisch.”
At Monica’s insistence, Jessica hurried to the backyard, where Garbisch was still practicing with his spear
What she didn’t expect was that as soon as she arrived, she heard a sharp pwhoosh. A silver spear flow through the air, heading straight toward her and
Monica.
“My lady, watch out!” Monica cried out, trying to shield Jessica,
But all Monica felt was a sharp pull on her arm, and her vision blurred. By the time she recovered, she saw the silver spear had embedded itself in the ground right in front of her feet.
It had only gone in about half an inch before it stopped, then fell with a loud clatter
“Jessical Monical” Garbisch, equally startled, rushed ower with a look of panic. “Are you both okay?”
Monica shook her head, still trembling from the shock.
Jessica, however, just stared at the silver spel for a moment, silently. After a few moments, she finally looked up at Carbisch
His eyes were dark with worry, his lips pressed tightly together, and he didn’t speak
Jessica glanced at Monica. “Go prepare breakfast”
