Asher's eyes were a fiery red, "If only we knew what Lemira would turn into, Eve's dad should have saved our parents first, not her!"

The scene of the accident years ago seemed to flash through Lemira's mind. She could barely stand, leaning heavily against the door frame, the details of that day eluding her. Her heart felt like it was in a vice, making it hard to breathe.

In a fit of anger, Asher threw off his jacket, "Lemira, you always think we favor Evelina, but we took her in for you, to make up for what happened. You not only caused our parents' death but also Evelina's dad's. If you want to leave, then so be it!"

With those words, Asher turned and left via the elevator.

"Asher, come back!" Lucian was both anxious and angry, turning to Lemira, "Lemmy, Asher's just blowing steam, don't take it to heart."

Lemira was visibly shaken. Orion stepped forward, supporting her on the shoulder, his gaze filled with concern, "You okay?"

Lemira shook her head, her voice hoarse as she asked Lucian, "I can't remember what happened that day of the crash. Did I really cause our parents' death?"

"No, it wasn't your fault. It was an accident, the other driver ran a red light and hit our parents' car. They're the real criminal!"

Orion's pupils constricted at the mention of the criminal, a sharp pain spreading from his gaze.

Lemira was skeptical, "But Asher didn't make it sound that way."

"Asher was just venting, you know how he is."

Orion saw Lemira's distress, "He made it clear, it wasn't your fault."

Wiping away her tears, Lemira looked at Lucian, "Go. From now on, I have nothing to do with the Langston family."

"Lemmy, listen to me."

Orion interrupted Lucian, "After everything, do you really think you or anyone from the Langston family deserves her forgiveness? A simple apology can erase the hurt you've caused each time?"

Lucian's eyes reddened, "I-I truly regret it."

Inside her apartment, Lemira sat on the couch, reading about the Langston Group's internal system hack making headlines again.

Asher was probably on his way back to Orvin by now. She let out a sigh of relief, "This severs all ties. Asher won't bother me anymore."

At least until he managed to replace the source code she wrote, he wouldn't dare make a move. She had almost forgotten about the source code, never intending to use it as leverage. They had forced her hand.

Orion's gaze was profound, "Don't take what Asher said about your parents to heart."

Lemira managed a bitter smile, "Sometimes, I wish I had been the one to die. If only Evelina's dad had saved my parents first." Then she wouldn't have to live with this guilt.
