"Lemira, what on earth are you babbling about? My dad's been gone for years."
Evelina's voice cracked with fear. Could it be that the Langston family had uncovered something?
She had always believed herself safe, especially since she wouldn't have known her father was still alive if he hadn't contacted her directly.
So, if she was in the dark, the Langstons had to be clueless too. But, to her dismay, she found out Asher had been secretly digging into the car accident from years ago, sending shivers down her spine.
Had Asher discovered anything?
Who had hacked her phone a few days ago, Lemira or Asher?
Lemira looked at Evelina with a smirk, her pale face amusing her. "Even you would fear, huh? Hidden for so many years, yet you never thought the Langstons were still on the case!"
Asher frowned, "Lemira, Eve's dad is gone. He couldn't possibly be a suspect."
"If there was something fishy about the accident, who's to say the dead aren't walking?" Lemira shot back, her gaze fixed on Evelina. "What do you say?"
"My dad's dead, Lemmy. Bringing this up is just cruel. If my dad could survive that, then so could your parents."
Evelina's mind raced. She had to stand firm on her father's death.
The Langstons only had suspicions, no proof.
Tears welled up in Evelina's eyes as she choked up looking at Asher. "Asher, Lemmy can say whatever she wants about me, but she should never bring up my late father."
Seeing Evelina cry softened Asher's heart.
He scolded Lemira, "That's crossing the line, even targeting someone who's passed away."
Passed away?
Lemira scoffed at the absurdity. Evelina's father wasn't dead.
"Lemmy, you keep mentioning my deceased father. Do you think he might still be alive? I wish he was more than you do."
