Adah’s face turned bright red with anger. “Is that any way to raise a child?”

Mrs. Tempest lifted her chin, all traces of her usual grace and poise gone. She radiated authority, every bit the queen of the room.

“That’s exactly how I raise my daughter. If you’ve got a problem with it, keep it to yourself.”

“You—”

“You what? Your daughter tried to snatch my daughter’s dress first, and now you want to play the victim? No wonder your kid’s so rude and insufferable—clearly she learned it from her mother.”

Mrs. Tempest let loose, her words sharp and relentless, leaving Adah speechless and on the verge of tears.

And Mrs. Tempest wasn’t finished. As she blocked Adah from getting closer, she called out to Claire with a commanding wave. “Sweetheart, left hook—right hook! Teach her a proper lesson. Let’s see if she tries to act tough again.”

“Good job, honey! That’s it. Don’t stop now. Don’t give her a chance to fight back!”

Mrs. Tempest was so fired up her own cheeks were flushed. Adah’s face was just as red, but from fury and humiliation. Watching her precious daughter—her pride and joy—get pummeled until her nose was bleeding and her face bruised, Adah nearly fainted from distress.

“That’s it! I’ve had enough!” she cried, lunging at Mrs. Tempest.

But Mrs. Tempest dodged her clawing fingernails with ease, grabbed a fistful of Adah’s carefully styled hair, and yanked hard.

Within seconds, Adah’s elegant hairdo was reduced to a tangled mess, and clumps of hair littered the floor.

“Ahh! I’ll get you for this!”

And just like that, the two women devolved into a full-on brawl.

Mrs. Tempest held the upper hand the whole time; Adah ended up with her hair a disaster, her face streaked with bloody scratches—her once-beautiful features marred beyond recognition.
