Departure was imminent.

Watching Rebecca White’s furrowed brow, Francis felt a mix of reluctance and a subtle, unbidden happiness.

"I’ll be back soon, I promise. I'll try to make it before your next treatment. Just wait for me, okay?"

But Rebecca White was worried about something else entirely.

"What about James when you’re gone?"

The Johnson family had house staff, but they weren't family, after all.

Francis had thought about this too.

"I've talked to Gilbert. I’ve asked him and Sherilyn to look after James for a while..."

He glanced at Rebecca White’s face and squeezed her hand gently.

"He's not staying with you because, well, you're still undergoing treatment."

"Yeah," Rebecca White nodded, understanding. "I know."

If James stayed with her, and she happened to sleepwalk at night and startled him, it wouldn’t be good.

She smiled lightly, "I guess Mr. Harrison and Sherilyn won’t mind. Plus, Jenna is there. James really likes having her around, they’ll keep each other company."

"That’s exactly what I thought."

Francis patted her hand and sighed, "Just a little longer, and soon enough, we’ll all be living together as a family."

Rebecca felt her cheeks warm at his words and turned her face away, too shy to reply.

As summer approached, the days grew longer, and the sun lingered on the horizon.

Gilbert returned to the South Building while the sunset still hung lazily in the sky.

"Mr. Nine, you’re back."

Gilbert handed his jacket to the housekeeper, who smiled and pointed inside, "Ms. Gomez and Miss Jenna are in the practice room."

"Alright."

Nodding, Gilbert headed in that direction.

Just like at Golden Oak Manor, he had set up a room at the South Building as well, modifying it into a practice room for Sherilyn.

At this moment, Sherilyn was there with Jenna.

Jenna was still young, so Sherilyn was teaching her some basic, easy dance moves.

Sherilyn wiped the sweat from Jenna’s forehead, "Let's go take a bath, sweetheart."

She moved past Gilbert, heading out of the room.

Throughout, she didn’t make eye contact with him.

When the mother and daughter finally came downstairs after their bath, the sky had turned dark, and the dining room was filled with the delicious aroma of dinner.

"My tummy is hungry!"

Jenna rubbed her belly and swallowed hard, her little legs quickly carrying her into the dining room.

"Hurry, Mommy! Daddy is waiting for us to eat!"

"Yes, I’m coming."

In the dining room, Gilbert lifted Jenna and placed her in her special high chair, while Sherilyn took her seat across from her.

Gilbert sat between them, where he could easily attend to both.

"That’s too much mashed potatoes."

Sherilyn commented as she sat down, eyeing her plate with a slight frown.

"Then give me some." Gilbert casually picked up her plate and scooped some onto his own.
