When Gilbert brought it up with such gravity, Sherilyn couldn’t help but ask, “Is it some special occasion or something?” 

With a mysterious smile, Gilbert dodged the question. “You’ll see when the day comes.”

Sherilyn pondered for a moment. Her birthday had already passed, and his was yet to come… After all, she remembered the birthday of the man she’d had a crush on for years. Their wedding anniversary? What wedding anniversary could there possibly be to celebrate for a divorced couple? 

Unable to figure out what special day it might be, she decided to just wait and see. 

Saturday morning. 

Gilbert dropped Sherilyn off at the dance studio, reminding her, “Don’t forget about our date tonight. I’ll pick you up.” 

“Got it.” 

Sherilyn had to suppress the urge to roll her eyes. How many times did he need to mention it? 

His persistent nagging only made her more curious. What on earth was so important about today? 

Afternoon. 

While changing, Sherilyn’s phone rang. 

It was Sophia, sounding frantic. “Sherilyn! Are you busy? Can you make it? Jenna’s not doing well!” 

What? At those words, Sherilyn’s heart skipped a beat. “What’s wrong with Jenna? Where are you guys?” 

“Jenna’s got both ends erupting…” 

Sherilyn’s vision blurred for a moment. “I’ll call an ambulance right now, let’s meet at the hospital!”

After hanging up, Sherilyn quickly changed and rushed to the hospital.

She arrived at the emergency department entrance before the ambulance, ready to wait for Jenna. 

When the ambulance arrived, Sophia stepped out, holding Jenna in her arms. 

“Jenna.” 

Sherilyn immediately went forward, gently taking Jenna from Sophia’s arms. 

Even though she was frantic on the inside, she dared not show it in front of Jenna. 

If the mother is scared, the child will only be more frightened. 

“Mommy.” Jenna nestled into her mother’s arms, her big eyes watery. “I feel bad.” 

“I know, sweetheart.” Sherilyn touched Jenna’s sweaty face. “Just hang in there, okay? You’ll feel better after seeing the doctor.” 

“Mm–hmm.” Jenna burrowed further into her mother’s embrace. 

“Let’s let the doctor take a look, okay?” 

After examining her, the emergency doctor confirmed Jenna had acute gastroenteritis, Due to Jenna’s preexisting conditions, they decided to admit her. 

Once the admission paperwork was done, Sherilyn contacted Elijah. 

He was Jenna’s primary doctor and knew her condition best. 

Elijah wasn’t on duty that night, but he came right over after receiving the call. 

After examining Jenna, Elijah agreed with the emergency doctor’s diagnosis. “It’s acute gastroenteritis. Considering Jenna’s condition, it’s best she stays hospitalized.” 

“Thank you.” Sherilyn finally let out a sigh of relief, apologizing, “I’m sorry for making you come all this way.”
