With those words, Gilbert bolted out the door.

"Gilbert! Gilbert!"

He was just in his hospital gown, not even a jacket to shield him from the chill!

Gilbert dashed after her, all the way to the elevator.

Just as the doors slid open, Sherilyn stepped in with a group of people.

"Sherilyn!" Gilbert's voice cut through the noise, desperate, "Sherilyn!"

Hearing her name, Sherilyn turned around abruptly.

But the crowd inside was too thick; her view was completely blocked.

"Hold on!"

Gilbert tried to catch up, but the elevator doors closed right in front of him.

*Bang*!

Gilbert slammed his hand against the door, biting back a curse, then turned and ran for the fire escape.

By the time he reached the ground floor, his heart was racing, breaths short and choppy.

But he couldn't stop; bursting through the lobby, he finally caught up to Sherilyn on the lawn in front of the surgery building.

"Sherilyn!"

As soon as she turned around, Gilbert was there, arms wide open, pulling her into a fierce hug.

The force of it, combined with his momentum, made Sherilyn stagger back, nearly falling over.

"Gilbert!" Sherilyn gasped in surprise.

But Gilbert just grinned at her, "Finally caught you! Guess you really do need some stamina to chase after someone like you!"

He was still in the mood for jokes?

Sherilyn glared at him, taking in his thin hospital gown, and exploded, "Gilbert, how old are you? Why are you so reckless, not thinking about the consequences?"

He'd lost count of how many times she'd done that.

"Gilbert!"

Sherilyn glared at him, wiping her mouth, "Are you disgusting? When's the last time you brushed your teeth?"

"Hmm?"

Gilbert raised an eyebrow, his laughter growing louder, "So, what you're really asking is whether I brushed my teeth? Does that mean you didn't mind the kiss? Is that it?"

What? Sherilyn's eyes widened even further. Was that what she implied? He always assumed too much, acted without thinking!

Days of unease and anger erupted in that moment.

"Gilbert! Don't think just because you chased after me like this, standing in front of me with that 'do or die' look, I'll be touched! That anything between us will change."

She scoffed coldly.

"Your injury has nothing to do with me, yet I'm supposed to deal with the consequences? Where on earth does that make sense?"

"What do you think I am? A fool or just an easy mark?"
